10 Years Ago   Can you spell “indivisible”? What about “wretchedness”? Holly Kolberg, fifth-grader at Syracuse Elementary, correctly spelled both words recently to win the elementary division of the Kosciusko County Spelling Bee. Runner-up was David Blakemore, sixth-grader at Sacred Heart School, who misspelled “indivisible” in the fourth round. 25 Years Ago    The start of second semester Jan. 25 at Warsaw Community Schools will bring with it a special treat for the math department at Warsaw Community High School. Students and teachers will be using for the first time the newly installed IBM System/2 Model 30 computer laboratory in the math department. The new equipment replaces an obsolete Altos computer lab. Students will be using them to learn the computer languages of BASIC and TURBO PASCAL, a new form of PASCAL.50 Years Ago    Warsaw High School representatives at the 17th annual speech conference at Ball State Teachers College in Muncie won the sweepstakes award over 66 other Indiana high schools competing and received special tribute from the Ball State director of speech, Dr. Duane Diedrich. Ten students received certificates of merit. They included Jim Gast, Syd Silveus, Diane Long, Jack Kelley, Bob Flinn, Michaele Hodges, Margaret Humberd, Virginia Arnold, Frank Kliewer and Pat Batalis.75 Years Ago   Mr. and Mrs. Ted Davis have returned to Warsaw from an 8,000-mile trip through 19 states and Mexico, a motor trip to the west coast and back in 22 days. The Davises report having visited many scenic spots on their journey, and also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Vern Boggs of San Pedro, Calif., formerly of Warsaw, and with Mr. and Mrs. Harley Osborn and family of Long Beach, Calif.

Manchester Discusses Town's Future Plans

NORTH MANCHESTER - Twenty-six North Manchester community members discussed the town's 20-year, comprehensive plan Tuesday with Dean Rundell, from Rundell, Ernstberger & Associates, Muncie, at North Manchester Public Library. "The comprehensive plan is a physical manifestation of whatever our hopes and plans are for the community.The perception you have about the community is very important," said Rundell, who led the discussion. Local officials "have taken the initiative to bring this up to date," he said.The completed plan is not law, but it could lead to updated ordinances as a legislative means of carrying out the plan. "Opinions might be different," said Rundell, starting the discussion."We are trying to develop an overall perspective." Rundell asked for North Manchester's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
