To kick off the 2017 season, Grace College’s volleyball team split two matches at the Forester Invitational. Alexa Hill’s historic 60-assist performance lifted the Lady Lancers past Brescia in Friday’s late game. Grace used Hill’s 60 assists — the most by a Grace player in the past decade — to come back and beat Brescia in five sets. The Lady Lancers found themselves in a jam, trailing 2-1 against Brescia. Grace dropped a narrow 25-22 scoreline in the opener before leveling the match with a 25-14 victory in the second game. The Bearcats gained an edge with a dramatic 27-25 win in the third, a game which saw 20 ties.

Friday Night Football Will Disappear, Unless...

There’s something about Friday nights and high school football that seem just so darn American. The air that gets cooler and more crisp as the season rolls along, the marching bands and cheerleaders, and trees changing colors to provide a great backdrop. What’s not to love about it? But make no mistake, Friday nights on the gridiron are disappearing, and sooner than anyone really wants to talk about.   How is this possible? Because it’s getting harder and harder to find men and women who are willing to wear the black and white striped shirts of an official. And it gets worse. It’s not just football refs; there’s a growing shortage of officials in all sports, not just in out little corner of the world, but across the nation.

Among the returnees is Hayes Sturtsman, who completed 48 percent of his passes for 1,335 yards and 11 touchdowns against nine interceptions in the 2016 season.

A Nation Of Charlie Gards

The baby Charlie Gard is dead and the British government made sure it would happen thanks to the National Health Service, which considered the life was expendable. His parents loved him and wanted him to receive the best care possible in case a miracle cure could happen. But in their infinite wisdom, the NHS officials decided they knew better and didn't allow the baby to be treated in the United States, where lives are precious except in the abortion clinics where unborn lives are considered "unwanted tissue."

Call For Help

My sister-in-law lost her husband, my brother Dave, unexpectedly on April 11 of this year. She has called a couple of places for help to do repairs inside and outside of her home but the agencies she called no longer help. So I’m asking anyone in the community that can to help her because she is unable financially to do it.

Health Care Culprits

The biggest culprits in health care are the drug companies and insurance companies. There are no restrictions placed on them. The amount of money people have to spend out of pocket before the plan kicks in is outrageous.
