Blacks are going to whine if in control or not.They always have and always will.As for South Carolina's flag, there is not one thing wrong with it.Georgia has the Confederate flag on half of their flag; as for myself I have it on me.Blacks have their "X" (Malcolm X) and southerners have theirs: Confederate.It will never change, as long as there are people there will be conflict.

Local Residents Can Help In Tsunami Relief Effort

As the death toll rises in southeast Asia from the tsunamis, organizations such as the American Red Cross are working to help those people affected. Today, the death toll was nearing 100,000."That number is going to grow significantly as they get more into the areas," said Larry Peppel, executive director of the local Red Cross chapter. But the Red Cross can't do it alone.Local residents can help with the effort through donating money.

Housing Authority Gets State Funds For Owner Rehab Project

The Warsaw Housing Authority on Monday approved acceptance of $250,000 in funding from the Indiana Housing Authority. The funds will be administered through the WHA Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program over the next 18 months. The continuation of funding for the rehabilitation program will allow low-income homeowners to repair structurally unsound portions of their homes. Five clients' homes have already been renovated.With the improvements finished, the homeowners will sign the mortgage and begin repayment on their portion of the remodeling. Renovations have begun on three Warsaw residences.Four people have started the application process for the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program. The program can loan up to $25,000 to low-income Warsaw residents whose homes need improvements or structural repairs.Depending on income level the home improvement loans may be forgivable or partially payable.

Planners OK Tippy Lake Rezoning

Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission passed a recommendation Wednesday to rezone a property on Tippecanoe Lake from residential to commercial.

Zimmer Provides Update On Centerpulse Acquisition

Zimmer Holdings Inc.announced Monday it has reviewed certain accounting issues at Centerpulse AG in response to the disclosure of the U.S.Securities and Exchange Commission's informal investigation of Centerpulse. Although Zimmer cannot provide any assurance as to the timing or nature of the ultimate outcome of the SEC investigation, Zimmer did not become aware of any facts during its examination that alter its views regarding the long-term fundamental value of Centerpulse. Zimmer also announced that the United Kingdom competition authority has issued a standard request for comment to establish whether Zimmer's acquisition of Centerpulse may be subject to U.K.competition review.The company expects a favorable outcome of this review.Zimmer was not required to make any formal filings with the U.K.competition authority.This review will not delay the scheduled expiration of Zimmer's offers for Centerpulse and InCentive Capital AG.

Woman Reports Rape At Hawg Waller

HOFFMAN LAKE - A Warsaw woman reported being raped while attending an annual motorcyclist gathering held at Hawg Waller campground near Hoffman Lake. The woman said she was raped by three men in a tent sometime between 3 p.m.Saturday and 4 a.m.Sunday.She was able to describe her alleged assailants to police. Witnesses say they saw the woman walking around the campground naked and appearing dazed Saturday afternoon.Three witnesses, all men, say she wandered into their campsite in the evening and began vomiting. With the help of an unknown female passerby, the men cleaned the woman and allowed her to sleep in their tent for approximately eight hours, until she recovered. According to the men, the woman recovered and upon waking, asked for a drink of soda and wandered away again.

Akron Gears Up For 'Spark In The Park'

AKRON - The Eighth Annual Spark in the Park free outdoor concert will be July 15 at Pike Memorial Park, Akron. The free Christian concert is 1 to 9 p.m.Featured speaker is Michael Skupin from CBS's reality show "Survivor: The Australian Outback".Other artists performing include Mickyray and Zach, Morris Mott, The Browns, Reconciliation and two-time Dove Award-winning singer and songwriter Chris Rice, headlining at 7:30 p.m. The annual event was founded eight years ago in response to the Columbine High School murders.A small group of individuals, responding to the 1999 slayings, created the event, taking advantage of the town park to provide a free concert, free food and a safe and clean environment for Akron and the surrounding communities. Eight years later, the event still provides Christian music, games and activities, food, fun and fellowship.

Two Arrested In Pierceton Meth Lab Bust

PIERCETON - Kosciusko County Drug Task Force shut down an active methamphetamine lab in Pierceton at 10:30 p.m.Friday. The lab, at 791 Ind.13N, was in the basement of a home owned by Blake Neeley.Officers had been investigating the home for 10 months after receiving citizens' reports of possible drug activity at the residence. It wasn't until Friday that sufficient evidence for a warrant was obtained. Officers went to the residence, which, according to a Drug Task Force press release, was filled with meth fumes, and found not only drug manufacturing in progress, but also four sleeping children.

2002 Parade Site Selected

The Builders Association of Kosciusko-Fulton Counties recently announced that Pheasant Ridge is the site for the 2002 Homes on Parade Sept.7-14. Pheasant Ridge is a new site south of Warsaw.Final work on the infrastructure is being completed, then the streets will be finished.Brad and Bruce Jackson, T.L.Jackson Construction, are the developers of Pheasant Ridge. The Builders Association is pleased that the parade will be in the city of Warsaw.Having city water and sewer for their projects allows the builders more options for home and landscape designs and lowers the expense from private utilities.The last parade in the city was in 1991 at Patterson Place. The developers of Pheasant Ridge have proposed several new ideas this year, such as landscaped ponds, continuous sidewalks, a nature walk path and lighted streets for security.The Builders Association is anticipating a successful 17th Homes on Parade.
