Kosciusko Literacy Services today announced that it has received a grant of $15,000 to host The Big Read in Kosciusko County.

10 Years Ago Three students from Kosciusko County were named to the Dean’s List at the University of Saint Francis for the fall 2001 semester. They were: Noreen A. Byers-Pollack, Warsaw, majoring in business administration; Ryan Gruenewald, Claypool, majoring in fine and commercial art; and Wendi Norton, Mentone, majoring in secondary art education Andrea King, daughter of Barry and Ruth Ann King, was named the 2001-02 recipient of the Guebert-Lake Merit scholarship by the program in physical therapy at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo. King is a 1996 graduate of Warsaw. 25 Years Ago Warsaw Community High School seniors Nancy Parke and Mark Schmidt have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Corp. competition. The pair are now eligible for scholarships from NMSC, business-sponsored scholarships or college/university financial scholarships. Parke is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Parke, Warsaw. She plans to attend either the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor or Indiana University. Schmidt is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Schmidt, Warsaw, and a member of National Honor Society. He has been accepted at MIT. 50 Years Ago Warsaw High School’s group of 14 band students who earned superior ratings in the state instrumental contest recently at Butler University, Indianapolis, were: Pamela DeGood, drum; Carol O’Reilley, flute; Anne Jensen, flute; Richard Roderick, cornet, and Jerry Stutzman, tympani; Wendy Bolinger, drum; Becky Eggers, clarinet; Steve Sowers, sax; Dennis Harrell, drum; Diane McCleary, flute; Jim Gast, sax; Michaele Hodges, sax; Jim Mendenhall, sax; and Betty Kaufman, sax. Lady Lancers Tennis Blows Past Adrian In Non-Conference Play

Grace College’s women’s tennis team had little trouble handling Adrian on Friday. The Lady Lancers won 6-1, securing their third straight win on the young season. Grace was dominant in doubles’ play, setting the tone for the afternoon. Jayna Armstrong and Dayana Ortega did not drop a game (6-0) at No. 1 doubles.
