10 Years Ago     A photo taken by the Associated Press ended up featuring a Milford man. In the photo, U.S. Army physician’s assistant Lt. John Frasure, 32, of Milford, looks through a box of cigars at Odai Hussein’s palace in Baghdad in one picture and is sitting on a gilded bed in the palace in another. Odai is Saddam Hussein’s eldest son and his palace was heavily bombed by coalition forces. Frasure is the nephew of Sybil Bradley, who saw the photo of Frasure on the bed at USAToday.com25 Years Ago     Wal-Mart Stores Inc., one of the most successful retail outlets in the nation, has announced plans to build a Wal-Mart Discount City store east of Lake Village Shopping Center in Warsaw. Construction of the 81,900-square-foot store is expected to begin this summer, and an opening is tentatively scheduled for spring 1989. The new store will anchor a shopping center. Between 20 to 25 retail stores are planned, and are expected to create about 200 jobs.50 Years Ago    L.N. “Pete” Thorn, Warsaw Baker Boys’ Club director, recently received a medal as honorary director, or referee, of the Wabash Relays, held at Crawfordsville. It’s customary for the college to bring back former great athletes for the occasion. “Pete” earned 16 letters at the school.75 Years Ago    At the regular meeting of the directors of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce recently, final steps were taken for the location in Warsaw of a subsidiary of the Junior Toy Corporation, of Hammond, Ind., a well-established industry manufacturing toys of various kinds. The new factory, which is expected to employ 150 or more persons within a year, will be located in the building, formerly known as the Hugro building on North Detroit Street.

10 Years Ago Dr. William Dugan Jr., a medical oncologist/hematologist and pioneer of Kosciusko Community Hospital's oncology program, received the Sagamore of the Wabash last week. The award is the Indiana governor's highest award and was presented to Dugan by Dr. Robert LaSalle, a retired family physician from Wabash County Hospital. Dugan is a co-founder and medical director of Community Cancer Care, Indianapolis, KCH's partner in oncology services. He worked with local physicians and nurses at KCH to create a partnership with Community Cancer Care. 25 Years Ago A Marion County judge will make the determination whether Warsaw Community High School senior Rick Fox will be eligible to participate in athletics for the 1986-87 school year. Lawyers for the 17-year-old Fox and guardians Gene and Virginia Gossman started the legal ball rolling in Marion Superior Court in Indianapolis, filing a four-count lawsuit seeking injunctive relief against the Indiana High School Athletic Association. 50 Years Ago Grace College moved one step closer to having its own dormitories when it was announced last week that one of its sister organizations would help finance construction of a $400,000 women's dormitory. The Brethren Investment Foundation will solicit individual investments, which it would loan to the school. The women students now live in the Westminster Hotel, and the men stay at McKee Courts. 75 Years Ago Wilbur Latimer, son of Lyndes Latimer of near Burket, exhibited his Percheron colt at the Mentone fair. Latimer ran away with nearly all the prizes in the Percheron division as well as having the champion gold medal yearling colt, which took first prize against all classes. Latimer has a yearling Percheron stallion, which  he will exhibit at the state fair with expectations of landing the state stallion honors.
