Wagon Wheel Renovation Part of $42M Funds Bid

An $11 million upgrade to Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts is one of 70 projects included in Northeast Indiana’s bid for $42 million in state economic development funding.

From Atwood, he was a 1996 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. A David Fribley Memorial Benefit will be held May 26 in the Central Park Pavilion, Warsaw. The event begins at 2 p.m., hosted by the rhythm and blues band, Changeling. "Our goal is to purchase a monument in David's name to honor all of his brothers in the military." 10 Years AgoThe Young Tigers football team received permission from the parents of David Fribley to name the football field at Richardson-DuBois Park after the Marine who was killed in action March 23 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. David, from Atwood, was a Warsaw Community High School football player and lettered in other sports during high school. Fribley Field’s first season of play will be next summer. The field is under development this year. 25 Years AgoSgt. Rolf C. Tusing, formerly of Leesburg, and a 10-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, was selected as “Marine of the Year” for the Marine support battalion, which consists of 10 letter companies worldwide. Tusing, a 1975 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, is a communications operator assigned to the Naval Security Group Department of the U.S. Naval Communications Station in Rota, Spain. Cara Kinney, South Whitley School, captured first place; Shawn Krull, Milford, won second; and Neal Smythe, Burket, third. The Kosciusko Soil and Water Auxiliary sponsors the contest each year. This year's contest was entered by 923 fifth-graders. 50 Years Ago August 5 1959 The average Kosciusko County factory worker earned $94.64 a week during the month of December 1958, according to a report issued by the Indiana Employment Security Division. This compared with $104.81 in Elkhart; $96.31 in Marshall; $86.44 in Wabash, and $89.68 in Whitley. The state average was just more than $100 per week. 75 Years Ago August 5 1934 Federal engineers are now surveying the ground at Syracuse for additions to be made to the Wawasee fish hatchery near Syracuse. Two hundred recruits of the CCC camp, which is to be located in Kosciusko County, will be employed on improvements at the hatchery, which will consist of six or seven new fish ponds. The CCC camp will be located on the Elizabeth Shock farm.

Plymouth Swimmers Defeat Vikings In Dual Meet

Tippecanoe Valley hosted Plymouth in boys swimming Monday night. The visiting Pilgrims were the victors, winning 97-83. Chase Brower won two individual events for the Vikings and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay. His efforts in the 50 free and 100 backstroke helped him secure wins for the hosts.

The annual Manchester Junior-Senior High School Booster Club community dinner is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 16. The menu incoudes cheesy ham and potato soup, turkey croissant sandwiches, fruit cups, cookies, tea, lemonade and water. The cost is $7 for a full meal, and $4 for a half meal. Attendance at the Manchester/Southwood boys basketball game is not necessary to attend the dinner. The varsity basketball game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m.
