Warriors Advance To Title Game; Down Lakers

Wawasee boys basketball, led by hot-shooting senior Austin Miller, took an early lead and never looked back, as they defeated Lakeland 56-45 in the Class 3A NorthWood boys basketball sectional Friday night. After a timeout early in the third quarter where the Warriors led by just four points, Miller stepped up to hit two deep threes on consecutive possessions.


Williams Leads Grace Past MVNU

WINONA LAKE – Sophomore Dennis Williams scored a career-high 16 points as Grace featured a well-balanced attack to march past Mid-Central College Conference rival Mount Vernon Nazarene 89-63 Saturday at the Orthopaedic Capital Center.The fourth-ranked Lancers (18-3; 8-2 MCC) opened up a double-digit lead midway through the first half and never looked back, helping maintain their two-game lead atop the conference.

Jury Finds Shepherd Guilty On All Charges In Attempted Arson Case

After close to an hour of deliberation, a 12-person jury found Ricky Alan Shepherd guilty of trying to set a house on fire in Leesburg in September 2023. Shepherd, 60, North Webster, was found guilty of attempted arson, a level 4 felony; intimidation, a level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor.

Local Foundation Gives $10,000 To Planning Dept.

The Kosciusko County Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant to Warsaw's Planning Department for the Kosciusko County Bikeway System.The award will be used as part of the local match if the federal ISTEA grant for the proposed bikeway project is approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation later this year. The proposed bike route would link Winona Lake beach with the City-County Athletic Complex.Construction of the approximately 6-mile bikeway system would take place in three phases, with the first phase - Zimmer Road to the CCAC - beginning as early as next year if the necessary funds are generated.The estimated total cost of the project is more than $550,000, with the required local contribution more than $150,000.
