Suspect In Odometer Tampering Surrenders, Booked At County Jail

The Warsaw man accused of odometer fraud and other charges turned himself in to police Thursday morning. Chad Allan Gottschalk, 38, of 2028 Maple Run, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:30 a.m.Thursday on one count of felony theft and four counts of forgery.His bond was set at $40,000. Gottschalk's wife, Karen Gottschalk, 37, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Wednesday at 1:14 p.m.on two counts of check forgery.Her bond was set at $20,000. Chad Gottschalk may face up to 15 counts of forgery (Class C felony), four counts of theft (Class D felony) and four counts of odometer altering/odometer fraud (Class D felony). The Gottschalks allegedly purchased luxury vehicles with high mileage then turned back the odometers or replaced the odometers with one purchased on the Internet or in a junkyard. Once the odometers were altered or replaced, the vehicles were sold for nearly 100 percent profit.

Two Arrested After Break-In On Winona

Two Warsaw men were arrested this morning for allegedly breaking into a business on Winona Avenue. Shortly after 3 a.m.today, Justin Andrew Chalmers, 19, of 319 S.Indiana St., Warsaw, and Brock Anthony Obrien, 20, of 701 W.Winona Avenue, Warsaw, both were arrested on charges of burglary to a business, theft from a business and theft/receiving stolen property.Both are being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on bonds of $5,000. The men allegedly broke into and stole items from Paradise Pawn Shop on Winona Avenue. According to a report from the Warsaw Police Department, an officer saw two men on bicycles dressed in dark clothing early this morning.When the officer asked the men what they were doing, they reportedly said they were going to pick up a woman.Later when asked what the tools were for, the men said they had been fixing a car. The men had screwdriver, a pry bar, a flashlight, knives and bolt cutters in their possession when the officer stopped them.

Arson Charges Filed Against Teen In Church Fire

Arson charges were filed Tuesday against the suspect in the Leesburg Grace Brethren Church fire. Timothy Grevenstuk, 17, of Leesburg, was charged with arson and burglary, two Class A felonies; Class C felony burglary; and theft and attempted theft, both Class D felonies. According to Kosciusko County Prosecutor David Kolbe, the charges were filed in Kosciusko Superior Court I, Juvenile Division, as a result of an investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, agents from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The fire that occurred in the early morning hours of July 22 destroyed the newer part of the church and gutted the historic half.No one was injured in the blaze, and police at the time said they believed it was started in the basement sometime around midnight.

Teens Held In Thefts Of Four Motorcycles

Four stolen motorcycles were recovered Monday morning and two juveniles were taken into custody for the thefts. Randy Weaver, 17, Sunday Lane, Winona Lake, and Brett A.Robbins, 15, EMS C 24 Lane, Warsaw, were taken into custody Monday morning by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff's department received a call from a man who reportedly saw two men in a field along CR 200N with two new motorcycles.The description of the motorcycles fit those of two stolen from Lake City Honda on Sept.2. While sheriff's officers investigated the field, two males were found riding a four-wheeler on CR 325E.The two juveniles were identified as Weaver and Robbins.A police check on the four-wheeler showed it was stolen.Both juveniles were taken into custody.

Five adults and one juvenile were arrested Thursday as the result of an investigation into illegal drugs in Kosciusko County. Police also confiscated a stolen handgun; more than $6,000 in cash; a quarter pound of marijuana; a quarter pound of a substance believed to be methamphetamine; suspected forgeries of Social Security cards, alien identification cards and drivers' licenses; two cars; and other possible stolen items believed to be related to area burglaries. Fernando Ramirez, 26, of 10 Henderson Drive, Warsaw, is being held with no bond in Kosciusko County Jail and is charged with dealing marijuana and felony theft. Refugio Rico, 18, also of 10 Henderson Drive, was charged with maintaining a common nuisance and felony theft and is being held with no bond.

Burglary Suspects Arrested By Webster Officers

NORTH WEBSTER -ÊTwo men were arrested after members of the North Webster Police department broke up an alleged burglary Wednesday night. James A.Harris, 21, of 646 Columbus St., Wabash, was arrested at 7:31 p.m.Wednesday and booked into the Kosciusko County on charges of resisting/fleeing law enforcement, burglary to a residence and felony theft. Anthony Wayne Baker, 18, of 920 Anchorage Road, Warsaw, was arrested at 1:03 a.m.today and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of burglary to a permanent residence, theft from a residence and resisting/fleeing law enforcement. Both men are being held on bonds of $5,000. According to North Webster Town Marshal Greg Church, a caller reported a possible burglary in progress at a trailer in Mid Lakes Mobile Home Park around 6:09 p.m.Wednesday after Harris and Baker allegedly climbed through a window to enter the residence.
