Triton Keeps Culver Winless

CULVER - While Christmas is still a week away, it nearly came early for the Culver Cavaliers. The Cavaliers came into the first game of their holiday tournament against Triton looking to capture their first win of the season. Despite fighting back from a 20-point deficit, Culver (0-6) eventually fell to the Trojans 63-54. Triton's Matt Savill was the story early as he hit three first-quarter three-pointers to vault his team to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. Savill stayed hot in the second quarter as he scored his team's first seven points of the stanza.Savill would come out of the game midway through the second quarter and would not return. With Savill out of the game, the story quickly shifted to the sloppy play of both teams. The two teams traded turnovers for much of the first half. Both teams also shot poorly from the field. The teams combined for 46 turnovers in the game.

Warrior Offense Rests In Loss

SYRACUSE -ÊAnyone who watched the Warsaw/Wawasee Northern Lakes Conference volleyball match Thursday in Syracuse was probably surprised that the score seemed so lopsided. The Tigers defeated the Warriors 15-3, 15-9 in a match that was characterized by long volleys and many sideouts. "We played with them," said Wawasee coach Jason Fleming, "but we just couldn't seem to score.I don't think the game was as lopsided as the score showed." Wawasee came out strong against its NLC rival in the first game.Candice Brown and Staci VanLue combined for two points and put the Warriors up 2-0. After several sideouts, Warsaw's Mechelle Henderson stepped to the line.Henderson, a sophomore new to the Tiger varsity lineup, served three straight points to give the Tigers a lead they held until the end of the game. Wawasee got as close as 5-3 after Kathy Likens led the Warriors to one more point.

The Good Old Days Are Gone For Good

My son asked for a yo-yo for Christmas. It was kind of funny because it is really a pretty low-tech toy request for him.He also asked for a Sony Playstation¨.So while the yo-yo was really a pretty inexpensive gift to acquire, it was a bit difficult to find.Apparently they are pretty hot items because lots of places were sold out. I ended up ordering some from an Internet site.Remembering the days of my youth when I used to fool around with yo-yos, I ordered a couple for the kid and one for myself. When they arrived I found yo-yoing to be quite entertaining.I could still "rock the cradle" and "walk the dog" just like when I was a kid. Of course, the yo-yos of today are vastly superior to the ones around when I was a kid. They have ball-bearings instead of fixed axles. They have special weights placed around the outside to make them spin faster and "sleep" longer. But they're still yo-yos.
