Two Suspects At Large After Barbee Auto Theft

Two suspects are still at large after an early-morning auto theft near Barbee Lake. A car belonging to John Norman, EMS B48 Lane, was reported stolen at 1:06 this morning from the Norman home. A Kosciusko County sheriff's deputy on patrol spotted the stolen car stuck in a field near CR 1000N and 500E. The two suspects saw the police as they were attempting to get the car out of the field.They then fled on foot into a nearby woods. Police chased them into the woods and brought a K-9 unit to help search for the suspects. The recovered car sustained damage.The investigation is continuing.

Theft Charge Leads to Meth Ingredient Arrest

A Fort Wayne man was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly shoplifting meth-making products. Donald Robert Purdy, 42, faces preliminary charges of possession of precursors, conversion and theft, after a loss-prevention employee at the Menards at 1000 Husky Trail reportedly watched him open and pocket lithium batteries while in the superstore.

Warsaw Man Arrested for December Robbery

A Warsaw man was arrested Thursday on a warrant for robbery resulting in bodily injury and theft following a December 2013 incident.


Fatal Crash Near Leesburg

Kosciusko County officials are still investigating a fiery single-vehicle traffic fatality that occurred early Monday morning east of Leesburg. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded at 4:09 a.m. to Armstrong Road, east of CR 200E and found an SUV that was fully engulfed in flames. After the Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department extinguished the fire, a driver was found deceased inside of the silver, 2004 Chevy Suburban. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s office was summoned to the scene and subsequently transported the remains to the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, Fort Wayne, for formal identification. The autopsy and dental forensic portion will be performed today. Kosciusko County FACT members stated the fatality vehicle was travelling east on Armstrong road, when for an unknown reason, it left the south side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree head-on, and caught fire. The crash remains under investigation. Joseph B. Jacobs, 33, Lake Street, Warsaw, remains in critical condition today after a rear-end collision with a semi truck Friday afternoon.

Thieves Hit Farm Center On Ind. 15N

LEESBURG - Nearly $40,000 worth of John Deere farm equipment was stolen overnight Wednesday from Warsaw Farm Center. The theft was discovered about 9:30 a.m.Thursday at the Ind.15N, Leesburg, business and was reported by its manager. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, entry to the yard from which the items were taken was made by cutting a chain-link fence on the electric entry gate. Police believe that a larger trailer or truck would have been used to transport the stolen items: a 2001 6X4 Gator with a 72-inch front blade; a 2001 LT155 with 38-inch deck; a 2002 445 heavy duty tractor; a 2001 1460 with 60-inch side discharge mower; and a 2001 1420 with 28-horsepower gas front mower. Two other 6X4 Gators were moved as if the suspects also planned to remove them. The business' sister store at Plymouth had a similar theft last month, police said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the KCSD at 267-5667.

Teens Held In Auto Theft, Fleeing

Two teens were charged Tuesday night after allegedly stealing a vehicle earlier in the day from Warsaw, then fleeing from police. Darren Glenn Fields, 17, of 415 S.Buffalo St., Warsaw, is preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated, auto theft, fleeing law enforcement, public intoxication, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and criminal conversion. Gabriel Raymond Fields, 17, of 3925 Meadowridge Drive, Warsaw, is preliminarily charged with criminal conversion, public intoxication, possession of marijuana and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. According to Warsaw Police Department reports, a pickup belonging to Rob Logan Gast of Warsaw was taken from a parking lot near the intersection of Washington and Market streets Tuesday evening.The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.The report of the theft was made at 5:58 p.m.
