She is the daughter of Mr.and Mrs.Larry Cripe, Warsaw. 25 Years Ago May 18 1976 Postal Clerk Mary Hoffman, of the Silver Lake Post Office, was presented a plaque by the Kokomo Sectional Center manager, Richard Gerhard, for her suggestion of a name for the sectional center employees monthly newsletter. The name she submitted was "The SCF 469 Link."The chain link design symbolizes the linking of post offices and postal people as the links in the chain necessary to move the mail.

10 Years Ago    To prevent as much of a financial shortfall as possible, the Kosciusko County Council approved the deletion of all “400” accounts from each department’s budget. The 400 accounts include furniture, filing cabinets, vehicles and similar items. The county commissioners’ 400 account was deleted, but if any department needed any emergency item, that department can request it from the commissioners.25 Years Ago   NLC Champs – Winning individual events recently at the Northern Lakes Conference meet at Warsaw were: Concord’s Chris Wirt (diving), Warsaw’s Ivy Reed (200 individual medley), Warsaw’s Kara Hoskins (200 and  500 freestyle), Wawasee’s Cyndi Guimond (100 breaststroke), Warsaw’s Katie McCaffrey (50 and 100 free) and Cindy Keough (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke).50 Years Ago  Approximately 100 Warsaw and Winona Lake women attended the World Community Day program recently at the Salvation Army Citadel, which was sponsored by the United Church Women of Warsaw and Winona Lake. Ninety-two sewing bags filled with sewing notions, 35 sarongs, blouses, shirts and yard goods, which were made by the local organization, will be sent to women in Southeast Asia.75 Years Ago    Fifty men, including members of the Spring Creek Church, neighbors and friends gathered at the Calvin Warner home, north of Sidney, and shucked about 20 acres of corn, Thursday, Nov. 4. Warner is in the emergency hospital and will be there for a few weeks yet. They cribbed 1,200 to 1,500 hundred bushels of corn and finished at noon.

Donnelley & Sons Co. to children of its employees. The renewable four-year scholarships range from $2,000 to $4,000, depending on financial need. Holbrook, a student at Warsaw Community High School, is the daughter of Stephen Holbrook.25 Years AgoThe Warsaw Middle School finished first in an eight-county region and 10th in the state out of 221 schools entered in the Indiana Math League Contest held recently. Those participating were WMS seventh-graders Dan Green, Megan Drake and Rob Musgrave. Also, Chuck Brindle and Dan Zink. Brindle was first in the regional contest and 21st in the state contest, while Green was fourth in the regional.50 Years AgoFord Chinworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Chinworth, received the coveted Andrews Arion Foundation Award as the outstanding Warsaw High School band member. The donor, Charles Andrews, local plumbing and heating contractor, presented the award. Jim Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Miller, received the director’s baton as the senior band student who did the most in promoting the band program the past school year. Milton Tatter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Tatter, was named student director, having been elected by the other bandsmen and approved by Director Bazil O’Reilley.75 Years AgoWhen a tractor he was driving refused to stop, the machine plowed completely through the side of a tool-shed building recently at the Warsaw Country Club. The side of the building was torn away and E.A. Robertson, golf course caretaker, escaped injury although timbers fell about him. Robertson was putting the tractor, used to pull mowers, into the building for night storage.

WCS Board Hears Update On Grants, Remodeling

10 Years Ago Kosciusko Community Hospital celebrated its 25th anniversary and the grand opening of its women's and birthing centers. Speakers included Dr. John Davis; KCH Director of Chaplaincy Doug West; KCH CEO Wayne Hendrix; and Dr. Tom Howard, KCH chairman of obstetrics. The hospital is one of the youngest in the state and is the 10th largest employer in the county. The land for the hospital was donated by a group of eight doctors and supported by the financial assistance of local leaders. 25 Years Ago Sticking with its commissioner, the Executive Committee of the Indiana High School Athletic Association has turned down a formal appeal from Warsaw Community High School on the athletic eligibility of Rick Fox. The WCHS senior-to-be, who in his second year at Warsaw, was named Times-Union Area Player of the Year in basketball and was a state qualifier in the high jump in track, had been ruled ineligible by IHSAA Commissioner Gene Cato for athletic participation after this past spring. 50 Years Ago Tom Edgar Jr., 4, and his sister, Susie, 18 months old, of Leesburg, are the proud owners of a Shetland pony named Stormy, given away recently by the Conley Oil Company. StormyÕs domain is a two-acre lot across the street from the Edgar home. 75 Years Ago Five Warsaw World War veterans, employees at the Warsaw post office, received their bonus bonds presented to them from Postmaster Charles W. Anglin for certification and preparatory to cashing. They were Donald Dubbs, George McClellan, Ralph Dewart, Ted Davis and Roy E.K. Bowen. Also present were American Legion Post adjutant Avery Garber, and Roy Bartol. Garber and Bartol were acting as certifying officers for their fellow employees. Yesterday and today most all Warsaw veterans had received and were cashing their checks.
