Winona Limits Boat Trailer Parking To One Hour
WINONA LAKE - Despite protests from several citizens, the town council this morning passed a one-hour parking limit for boat trailers. Jan Nelson, Dave Wolkins, Millicent Andrews and Denny Andrews disagreed with the ordinance. Nelson said she was a retired schoolteacher and never saw a reason to keep the entire class from recess because one or two students were talking. "One-third of the island residents are gone now," she said."No one has told them about this ordinance.Why are you jumping to one hour?" She suggested the time limit be 72 hours, the same as for motor vehicles. The ordinance was met with resistance during the first reading Sept.17.Because the new code carries a fine, it must be read in public twice. Wolkins, a Winona Lake resident and the area's state representative, told the council the one-hour limit is like shooting a rabbit with an AK-47.

Tick-Tick-Tick. For Wawasee's Jerry Davis, time is of the essence. Davis needs to move his team toward the win column if he wants to avoid a repeat of current history in Syracuse. In his first two seasons at Wawasee, Davis is a combined 13-29.That's enough to make any Warrior fan's eyes water. These are the same fans that ran Gary Goshert all the way to Manchester. All Goshert did in his 10 years at Wawasee was win.He tallied a record of 124-88 between 1986 and 1996, including two 17-win seasons.The Goshert era included an NLC championship in 1993 and a sectional championship in '95, knocking off archrival Warsaw.The Warriors experienced only three losing years under Goshert's tutelage, the worst being 7-15 in 1990.
'Fosse' Dancer Has Local Connection
When "Fosse" hits the Honeywell Center stage in Wabash Friday, one member of the production will have a Winona Lake connection. Trevor Illingworth is a cast member of "Fosse."His parents and an aunt and uncle live in Winona Lake now, and his grandparents have had a cottage in town for many years. Though he grew up in southern California, Trevor said, he and his family would visit his grandparents in their Winona Lake home every summer.It also was during his early years that Trevor said he caught the musical theater bug, listening to such musicals as "Les Miserables." "I was pretty young, I guess," he said during a phone interview from Florida.He was raised with the movie musicals of the 1940s and '50s and that kept his interest going. He eventually graduated from California State University, Fullerton, with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. "My schooling was pretty intensive as far as getting us ready for the business," he said.
