Winona Burglaries Solved

Several weekend break-ins at Winona Lake were solved early Monday when Warsaw police detained an adult and a juvenile after they allegedly attempted to use a stolen credit card to rent a room a a Warsaw hotel. Kenneth Ray Hochstetler, 22, of Bremen, is charged with burglary to a business, possession of paraphernalia and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.He is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on $5,000 bond.Drew Allen Krichbaum, 16, of 201 Lakeview Drive, Winona Lake, is charged with curfew violation and two counts of possession of marijuana.He was released to his mother's custody after being questioned by police. Hochstetler and Krichbaum were apprehended at Wal-Mart after a security officer from Ramada Inn reported the two as acting suspicious.They were denied a room and Hochstetler reportedly asked if the limit on the credit card could be checked.He was told to do so by using the 800 number on the back of the card.

10 Years Ago The Greenway trails project is coming together in bits and pieces with development proceedings here and there along the proposed path. Activities Director Andy McCleary advised Warsaw parks board members recently that a verbal agreement to purchase 28 acres of wetlands property has been secured for the Pike Lake KCH branch of the Greenway. The "other" trail, beginning at the Chinworth Bridge and extending into Winona Lake, has also seen improvements, according to Parks Director Jon Garber. A Kiwanis Club Shelter has been moved to the bridge area and is ready for use. 25 Years Ago Here is a recipe from the Spotlight Recipe Contest for Chicken Casserole with Almonds. 2 cups cooked chicken, diced; 1 can cream of chicken soup; 1 cup chopped celery; 1 cup slivered almonds; 1 cup thinly sliced water chestnuts; 1/2 cup mayonnaise; 1/2 cup plain yogurt. Mix everything together and put in casserole dish. Top with crushed potato chips. Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour. It has graduated 3,200 nurses. 75 Years Ago The large round barn on the Ellis Alexander farm, now occupied by his son Wayne Alexander, was destroyed recently during a thunderstorm when lightning struck the building, burning it to the ground. The loss on the building alone is estimated at $2,500, partially covered by insurance. In addition, considerable property stored in the barn was destroyed.
