Wallet Theft Ruins Christmas

To whom it may concern: My name is Ruth Guffey. On Thursday, Dec. 13, I was at your store in Warsaw to purchase money orders used to pay my bills. Upon exiting your store to place my paid bills in a mailbox outside, I realized that my wallet was missing. Immediately I re-entered the store to retrace my steps in and out of the store, only to come up empty-handed.

Blount, ML Motorsports Gearing Up For Busch Series Races

Chad Blount doesn't see it as a step back in his stock car career, not competing in a race for two months, rather a step forward. Barring a test last week at Kansas Speedway, the 26-year-old ML Motorsports driver hasn't been in a stock car since July 16. It's that test session, however, that has Blount and his Warsaw-based team excited about racing again. "I had a lot of fun last week," Blount said of the team's NASCAR Busch Series test at the 1.5-mile track in Kansas City, Kan."We had a real good test.I'm just excited about getting back to racing." The team, which walked away from the ARCA RE/MAX Series after five full seasons of competition at the conclusion of the July 16 race at Berlin Raceway because of what team management called a series of "unfair and unreasonable rulings," will attempt to make its first Busch Series race Oct.8 at Kansas Speedway.

Manchester Places Second At Tournament

ROCHESTER -ÊManchester High School No.1 golfer Dorey Bungitak has had one problem on almost every course this season, and it had nothing to do with her golf game. How to say her last name. After placing first in the girls Three Rivers Conference Golf Invitational Saturday, the coach from host-school Rochester handed out the All-Conference medals. When he got to Bungitak (pronounced bung-i-tak), he said her first name, then paused. She stepped in, sighed and said, "Bung-i-tak," as the other members of her team giggled. Bungitak's individual score of 82 led all scorers, but Rochester was the team of the day, racking up a team score of 404 at Mill Creek.Manchester placed second with a 410, while North Miami (432), Tippecanoe Valley (434) and Whitko (455) followed.

Memories Of '97: Wilcoxson, Wiggins and Wawasee among top stories of 1997

Changes in two communities and violence against two of the most innocent institutions - a child and a church - were among the top local stories of 1997. By a unanimous choice, Winona Lake's restoration project was the top news story of the year, according to news staffers of the Times-Union and WRSW radio. The massive restoration project, led by town council president Brent Wilcoxson and entrepreneur Dane Miller, spurred debate on several levels. While nobody doubts the project is well intended and will be a major benefit to the town, questions arose regarding Wilcoxson's role since some of the $7 million project has involved town council approval. While Wilcoxson, a first-term elected official, stayed busy with the widespread renovation project, the longtime leader of the adjoining city of Warsaw was stepping aside. After 13 years as mayor, Jeff Plank resigned and left office March 1 to join InstruMed, an upstart firm located in Warsaw.

County Officials Formulating Emergency Plans

Since Sept.11, 2001, governments at all levels have been focusing on terrorism and bioterrorism. The Kosciusko County Health Department and health board are no different. Wednesday, county health administrator Bob Weaver told the county health board he and county health officer Dr.William Remington Jr.have been working with the local emergency management planning committee. The health department's role is to formulate a plan to conduct a massive immunization in the county should it be needed. In very small steps, Weaver said, the state is working with the health departments in each county on planning the massive immunizations. As each step is completed, the federal government is offering bioterrorism funds for local health departments. The money can be used for what each health department thinks it will need in case of emergency. "We're slowly working toward that end," he said.
