Syracuse Community Center Close To Becoming A Reality

SYRACUSE - "I see this as a place where the community will get together more," said Syracuse Park Superintendent Mike Hixenbaugh about the planned community center. As early as December 2001, the community center could be ready for all residents of Syracuse and the surrounding area to enjoy. It's planned to be approximately 15,524 square feet and will sit on approximately 3.8 acres of donated property. Planning for the facility has been going on for a number of years. It's changed in shape and size, but, Hixenbaugh said, "Now we're at the point where we reduced it and it's more of a realistic size facility for the town of Syracuse." The center board hit a milestone recently when it reached the number of pledged dollars it needed to apply for the Community Focus Fund grant. The $200,000 was raised by the deadline of Sept.8.

Knipsel Leaving Auditor's Office After 18 Years

She knows her last day will be full of tears, still she is also looking forward to retiring after approximately 18 years of public service. Charlene Knispel, 69, Kosciusko County auditor, is retiring at the end of this year. She will be replaced by Sue Ann Mitchell, the former county assessor. Knispel said, "I'll miss my girls. They are a marvelous staff. There's not enough words to describe (their good work)." One way to tell if an elected official did a good job is if they leave a position better than they found it.Charlene said she doesn't mean to degrade any previous auditor's work, but she feels she has done just that. "This office could run without an elected official," she said."That's how confident I am in my staff." Knispel was born in St.Louis, Mo.She has four grown children and 11 grandchildren. She moved to Fort Wayne from Missouri in 1945.She then went back to school in St.Louis and then at Indiana University.

Federal Reserve

Editor, Times-Union: In November 1910, a group of individuals met at Jekyll Island, Georgia. This group of people included a senator, heads of banks linked to John D. Rockefeller and John P. Morgan, and a member of the Treasury Department. Their meeting created the largest fraud in the history of the Republic. They got our government to give up its control to print its own money. The worst part is, they make you believe that you run it.

Webster Mobile Home Park Has Number Of Violations

The seasonal mobile home park inside the town of North Webster has had a number of violations for years, Dan Richard, area plan commission director, told the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals Tuesday. To keep the park as is, Thomas Clutter petitioned the BZA for an exception to change the non-conforming use by allowing additions to the park not meeting minimum required setbacks in a residential district. The property is on the north side of Fourth Street and 175 feet east of Ind.13 in Tippecanoe Township. Clutter told the BZA, "It's basically what it is."He said he bought the park in 1979 and people have done with it what they will. Richard said every unit in the park can build one additional porch or shed as long as they remain 10 feet from another structure, which is tough to do in the park.
