Federal Reserve

Editor, Times-Union: In November 1910, a group of individuals met at Jekyll Island, Georgia. This group of people included a senator, heads of banks linked to John D. Rockefeller and John P. Morgan, and a member of the Treasury Department. Their meeting created the largest fraud in the history of the Republic. They got our government to give up its control to print its own money. The worst part is, they make you believe that you run it.

Webster Mobile Home Park Has Number Of Violations

The seasonal mobile home park inside the town of North Webster has had a number of violations for years, Dan Richard, area plan commission director, told the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals Tuesday. To keep the park as is, Thomas Clutter petitioned the BZA for an exception to change the non-conforming use by allowing additions to the park not meeting minimum required setbacks in a residential district. The property is on the north side of Fourth Street and 175 feet east of Ind.13 in Tippecanoe Township. Clutter told the BZA, "It's basically what it is."He said he bought the park in 1979 and people have done with it what they will. Richard said every unit in the park can build one additional porch or shed as long as they remain 10 feet from another structure, which is tough to do in the park.

Clinic Shows Ins And Outs Of Maintaining A Healthy Pond

LARWILL - Ponds seem to be springing up everywhere these days as solutions for drainage problems, irrigation supply or recreation. There is a lot more to them than digging a big hole in the ground. Members of area soil and water conservation districts and the public attended a pond clinic Thursday at the home of Kent and Kathy Kneller, southeast of Larwill. The Knellers built their excavated pond in 1998 in a low area west of their house and barnyard. Banked with rip rap, the well-maintained pond is a little over five acres in size Hosted by Whitley County Soil and Water Conservation District, four speakers talked about basic construction, stocking fish in the pond, aquatic weeds and the benefits of dry hydrants. Roger Ruske of the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District, advised the potential pond builders to carefully design and plan before removing the first shovel of soil. "Construction is the easy part," he said.

Purdue Expert Helps Farmers Grapple With 2002 Farm Bill

COLUMBIA CITY - A few things are certain about the 2002 Farm Bill: it's here (farmers have been "under" it since May); it's confusing (even Purdue University experts are struggling with it); and decisions made in the next couple of months are binding until 2007. Purdue's Dr.Allan Gray met with regional farmers at the North East Purdue Ag Center, Columbia City, Thursday afternoon to talk about the legislation and to demonstrate a university-generated spreadsheet to assist farmers making binding decisions regarding their crops. Kosciusko County Farm Bureau representative John Newsome attended the meeting at the ag center as well as Steve Palmer of Huntington County. The Title I portion of the bill - commodities - has three basic support mechanisms: marketing loans, which are the same as the 1996 bill; direct payments (the same as PFCs) and counter-cyclical payments, a new feature of the bill.
