"Clearly, one-third of the county's income comes from lakefront property," said David Tyler, a Tippecanoe Lake resident."The lakes areas are fundamentally important to the economy of the county." Tyler presented the information to Kosciusko County Development Inc.board members Wednesday to illustrate why he was pursuing establishment of a lake residential district. Tyler said the facts regarding the value of lakefront property is "new," in that no one has ever added up the figures before. "It's one reason why our proposal is important.Without the lakes our county would be very different," he said.

Warsaw Zoners Table Gast Fuel Request For Use Variance

A use variance requested by Gast Fuel and Service Inc.was tabled Monday at the Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, after everyone got their say. Currently, the service station, owned by David Kintzel, uses the former residence at 110 N.Reed St.as a storage facility. Commercial storage is not a permitted use in a residential area. Kintzel seeks a use variance to continue using the house as a storage facility for Center Quick Sales, Kintzel's building immediately to the south, and to legally allow parking in front of the building. City planner Jeff Noffsinger said Warsaw building commissioner Todd Slabaugh had inspected the house, noting there are no utility services to the house. Dick Kehoe, a retired attorney, appeared before the board representing Kintzel as an employee of Gast Fuel, not as a legal representative. Kehoe said he expected Kintzel to attend the meeting.

Winona Zoning Sent Back To Plan Board

Winona Lake - An outcry of complaints about a recommendation to rezone a handful of tracts around town was sent back to the town's plan commission for further study. Town council was prepared Tuesday night to vote on a group of rezonings, all to single family residential. The recommendation to approve the rezonings came from the plan commission, but residents complained about its impact. Councilman Harold Dunn made the motion to send it back and suggested the commission refrain from sending "package deals" involving multiple zoning proposals. The recommendation included six small tracts scattered around the town.Those include a stretch of property along Winona Avenue, Wooster Road near Kings Highway, two lots on West Street, the Chicago Boys Club property, the corner of Kings Highway and Kings Court, and a tract along Winona Beach and Pink Magnolia.

Breading Retires From Warsaw Little League

Although the fields are empty now, many Warsaw residents have been involved with Boggs Park.Whether through playing little league, or coaching a little league team, or attending games as a parent, or helping in the construction process, Boggs Park has been a part of many peoples' lives. Jim Breading, one of several people who was instrumental in bringing Boggs Park to Warsaw, recently retired from his duties after 17 years of service to Warsaw Little League, the last four as president. Although he began as a board member in 1982, Breading was actually involved in Warsaw Little League long before that.He was one of the first members of Warsaw Little League when it started in 1952.He was also involved in the first trade in the league.They had too many 12-year-olds and had to swap some players around.So Breading has seen the rise of this program from the beginning.

Warsaw Planners Delay Final LRC Decision

No final decision was made Monday by Warsaw Plan Commission on a request by LRC Products Inc.to vacate the plat for the Rolling Hills subdivision. Steve Snyder, LRC's attorney, said the real estate is no longer suitable for their intended plans. Board members looked at whether or not conditions have changed on the plat and whether or not vacating the plat is in the public's best interest. Before discussion began, board member Bill Baldwin, also a resident of Rolling Hills (a subdivision neighboring with LCR), excused himself. The board voted to deny vacation with only three votes. Commission president Joe Thallemer said the board needs at least four votes to take action. "Basically, we'll have to continue this.There's no option," Thallemer said. Board member Alan Clingan expressed concern that too much weight will be put on Keeven with his vote.Clingan is also concerned that residents are treated fairly.
