Minton Named Coach Of The Year

Retired Wawasee HIgh School cross country and track coach Jerry Minton was named Manchester College's M Association's Claude Wolfe Coach of the Year during homecoming festivities Oct. 19. Minton, who retired last year after 27 years at Wawasee, is a 1962 Manchester College graduate. Minton coached the Warrior boys' cross country teams to 262 wins and the boys' track teams to 260 wins. His cross country teams went 102-12 in the 1980s. In 1995, Minton was named the Northern Lakes Conference cross country Coach of the Year. Truex 60th

Clyde "Jack" and Arlene Truex marked their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 25. They were married Oct. 25, 1947 in Warsaw by the Rev. Ralph Gustin.He retired from OEC Medical Systems in 1992 ad she retired from Crystal Lake Egg Products in 1992.The couple have three children: Dale (and wife Joni) Truex, and Mrs. Steve (Jan) Sponseller, both of Atwood, and Mrs. John (Helen) Owens, Sevastopol. Warsaw Bar Patron Injured In Fight

A Warsaw man was treated for a concussion and cuts to his head and face after a fight at Ramada Inn in which he was struck with a beer bottle. Joel Nathan Holder, 26, of East Center Street, Warsaw, told Warsaw police that his assailant struck him on the head twice with a beer bottle.Holder said that the blows caused him to drop to the floor and, before he could get up the suspect had fled the bar area of the hotel.The incident was reported at 12:17 a.m.today. A witness to the alleged attack told police that the suspect approached him about half an hour prior to the fight and told him that he was looking for a fight.When the witness asked the suspect who he planned to fight, the suspect reportedly said he didn't care who, that he just wanted to fight. A half hour later, the witness saw the suspect talking to Holder and then saw both men on the ground fighting.The suspect appeared to be "extremely intoxicated," according to the witness' statement.

'Hoosier Millennium' Kickoff Set Today

Warsaw residents will get the opportunity to help kick off the state's observance of 2000 and help better their community today at 5 p.m.on the steps of the Kosciusko County courthouse. Indiana first lady Judy O'Bannon, touring four northern Indiana cities today, will make Warsaw her last stop and present the local Hoosier Millennium coordinator with the official "Hoosier Millennium toolbox." The toolbox contains various resources designed to help Indiana communities use the energy and enthusiasm generated by the millennium to find positive ways to mark the historic event and rededicate themselves to building tighter bonds between their citizens. Locally, Trish Brown, director of the Warsaw Community Development Corp., is heading up the millennium effort.
