Solar Achievement

Warsaw Community School Corporation celebrated the completion of its newest installation of solar panels with a ribbon-cutting at Harrison Elementary Tuesday. Other properties using solar include Eisenhower Elementary, Lakeview Middle School, Edgewood Middle School and Leesburg Elementary. The district’s central office is also in line to use solar, but officials are still looking for the best location for the panels. The entire project for the six buildings is expected to cost $10 million, but officials estimate the district will save about $15 million over the next 25 years. The district is working with 1st Source Bank to finance the project. In an agreement with NIPSCO, the district has been guaranteed the ability to sell back excess energy generated by the panels to the grid. The agreement will span a 30-year period.
