4th Arrests Linked To Syracuse

A fourth arrest linked to the New Year's Eve armed robbery of Syracuse Pizza Hut was made by Kosciusko County Drug Task Force Thursday. On Dec.31, Ryan Kennelley, 17, Syracuse, Nicholas Ashkins, 16, South Whitley, and Robert Lafollette III, Warsaw, allegedly robbed Pizza Hut at gunpoint, forcing nine employees into a freezer and fleeing with $3,400 cash.Police believe the boys committed the robbery to pay off drug debts to unknown dealers. After receiving information from confidential informants relating illegal drugs to the crime, the task force became involved, acting on information that the boys' gun was in the possession of an alleged local drug dealer. Police searched the home of Larry Angiano, 38, of 5895 S.E.Channel Road, Warsaw, and found the illegal weapon and nine other guns.More than a pound of marijuana also was found at the residence.

Leesburg Man Arrested After Fleeing Police

Police have arrested a Leesburg man who allegedly fled from officers in a borrowed car and then stole a motorbike in a failed attempt to escape. Booked into Kosciusko County Jail at 2 a.m.today was Randall Warren Baker, 24, of 4615 Ind.13N, Leesburg.Baker was preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated, criminal recklessness and theft. At 12:05 a.m., a KCSD deputy reportedly spotted the car Baker had borrowed from an acquaintance, Eva L.Radcliff, Leesburg, speeding through North Webster.The car disappeared before it could be stopped. Police received a call at 12:17 a.m.reporting a car matching the description of the Radcliff vehicle abandoned on Syracuse-Webster Road. Officers apprehended Baker nearby reportedly trying to make off with a motorcycle allegedly taken from the Scott Ousley residence, Ind.13N, Pierceton.Police reported Baker gained entry into the house by kicking in a door.

Milford Woman Feared Murdered

Three people are in custody this morning in connection with the investigation of a missing Milford woman now believed to be a victim of murder. Kathy Vroman, 48, of 105 N.Maple St., Milford, was last seen in Milford on Jan.15 and was subsequently reported by her husband as missing. Law enforcement officials said it was determined Wednesday night that the investigation had become one of murder. Jason Michael Fisher, 22, of Millersburg, and Ralph Freddrick Fisher, 46, of Goshen, are both preliminarily charged with murder and were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail this morning.The Fishers are father and son, officials said. Also arrested in connection with this case was George W.Aldrich, 28, of 9492-A Ind.19N, Etna Green.He is charged with theft. All three men are being held without bond.

Webster Experiencing Thefts, Break-Ins; Town Marshal Gives Advice To Residents

NORTH WEBSTER - During the past month, North Webster had reports of breaking and entering of vehicles. At the North Webster Town Board meeting Tuesday, concerned citizens asked what the town's police department was doing regarding the crimes and what citizens could do to help. Town Marshal Greg Church recommended removing valuables from one's vehicle.Keep cars and homes locked.Everyone should be vigilant and call the local police department if they see anything suspicious. Church also warned of scams involving donation requests to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.Before a donation is made, Church said the donors should make sure the organization they are donating to is legitimate. The police report for August also was provided.There were 326 calls of service, including: two battery; five criminal mischief; 23 involving theft, conversion, fraud or identity theft; five alcohol-related calls; 80 traffic-related calls; seven accidents; and 55 citizens assist.

A Piece Of Winona Lake History Discovered 75 Years Later

WINONA LAKE - When identical twin sisters Eunice and Lois Marburger, then of Logansport, received this postcard from their friend Lenora in the late 1920s, they probably had no idea that they would visit Winona Lake, let alone that Eunice would eventually buy a summer cottage here. On the reverse side of the postcard, Lenora wrote: "Hello, Girls, Don't you think this would make a nice place to go bathing?" It was signed Lenora and mailed Aug.29, at 1:30 p.m.; however, we couldn't read (or find) a year in the postmark.The green 1-cent stamp contained a picture of Benjamin Franklin.

Charges Filed In Theft From Mini Mart

Charges were filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court against a Mentone teen-ager accused of the Aug.27 burglary of a Mentone business. Uriah Michael Diemer, 19, of 205 N.Broadway St., faces charges of burglary, a Class C felony, and theft, a Class D felony, in connection with the incident at Sand's Mini Mart on West Main Street, where he was employed.A warrant has been issued for Diemer's arrest and bond in the case is set at $5,000. According to court documents, police recovered $14,328 of the nearly $15,000 taken from the safe during the break-in.The money was found at the home of a Mentone juvenile, a former employee of the business who also was allegedly involved in the crime. Diemer and the juvenile reportedly confessed to their roles in the incident during interviews with police.The juvenile is expected to be charged through the juvenile probation department.

Extension Secretary Accused In Embezzlement

Officials claim a "significant amount" has been embezzled from the 4-H Council savings account and a county employee was arrested in the case. Betty Ann Davis, 49, of 207 S.Graceland St., Claypool, was a secretary for the Extension office prior to her arrest on Monday.She is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on charges of forgery and theft.Her bond is set at $2,000. According to Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine, a county government member notified the police agency Monday of the possible embezzlement of funds. Davis was interviewed and reportedly admitted the wrongdoing.Subsequent investigation revealed that the misappropriation of funds may have been going on for as many as four years.
