City Says No To Meijer Rezoning

Warsaw City Council unanimously denied Meijer's rezoning request Monday. The request was to rezone 41.65 acres to special commercial (C5) to build a store at 900 Husky Trail, along Patterson Road. The Warsaw Plan Commission's unanimous recommendation April 10 to deny the petition foreshadowed the city council's decision. Meijer's attorney, Steve Snyder, discussed "modifications to the proposal." The modifications, requested by the city council at April's meeting, included a revised traffic study and a less intense site plan. Snyder presented a less intense site plan consisting of a reduction in store size from 80,000 square feet to 30,000 square feet.Snyder also explained differences between a plan including a Meijer store with outlots and a Meijer store without outlots. He said there was "not a significant difference in traffic" between the two plans at "peak hour" from 5 p.m.to 6 p.m.

Defense Is What Makes Tiger Kickers Go

Defense is often believed to be the key for any team to be successful. For the Warsaw Tigers, there's no difference.David Gehrke, Aaron Sawyer, Brad Waggoner, Matt Burgher, Jason Johnston, Jacob Silveus and Brett Dickerson are the defensive catalysts for the South Bend Adams Semistate-bound boys soccer team. When an opponent rarely gets a shot, as Angola did in the regional, these are the players most often responsible. They act as a buffer zone to keep an opposing forward from getting to goalie Matt Brown. Warsaw head coach Corey Rose described his defensive style of play that has allowed just a single goal in three tournament games.

Letters to the Editor 10-20-2005

- Be Pet Responsible Be Pet Responsible Editor, Times-Union: I am writing this letter to say what a shame it is to have people dumping cats and dogs all over the countryside. We have lived where we do for six months now and in that time a puppy and three small kittens have been basically placed on our front porch.People, just because you see children may live here or it might look like a good place to dump some poor baby animals, it doesn't mean it is a good spot.If you don't want an animal, then fix what is causing so many puppies and kittens being born.If you can't afford it, then you have no business having an animal.Do the responsible thing.Try finding a home for them. We can't keep these pets and it crushes my children. It breaks my heart to see them cry over these tiny babies.Take responsibility and do the right thing.
