Spartans Football Adds Cole As Assistant Coach

Manchester University head football coach Nate Jensen announced Monday that Scotty Cole has joined the Spartans’ staff as an assistant. Cole, a former two-time all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association defensive back and Alma College team Most Valuable Player in 2011, will guide the Black and Gold’s defensive backfield.

Manchester Walks Off, Hands Wawasee Softball First Loss

One way to get your weekend off to a great start is to win on Friday night. Manchester did so in dramatic fashion. Ellie Milam scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, sending the Lady Squires to a dramatic 3-2, walk-off win over previously unbeaten Wawasee in a non-conference girls softball game. Hoffer’s Last-Second Winner Beats Spring Arbor

A big second-half from Chad Hoffer was punctuated by the game-winning basket to propel Grace’s men’s basketball team to a 65-64 win over Spring Arbor on Saturday. Hoffer, who scored all nine of his points after halftime, made a number of big plays in the second half for the Lancers (14-14, 6-10 Crossroads League). No play was bigger than his last. With the clock winding down and Spring Arbor clinging to a one-point lead, Hoffer drove into the lane with reckless abandon. He muscled up a leaning shot as he was fouled, converting the basket with 4.1 seconds remaining to send the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center crowd into euphoria.

Lady Lancers Win Nailbiter Over Huntington

Wednesday’s game between Grace’s women’s basketball team and Huntington was filled with highs and lows. Fortunately for Grace, the final high went to the home team. Huntington missed free throws in the last second to prevent a potential overtime game as the Lady Lancers (13-12, 8-5 Crossroads League) held on for a 61-59 victory.
