North Webster Considering Annexation

NORTH WEBSTER - Depending on the outcome of a public hearing later this month, the town's boundaries could soon be changing. The North Webster Town Council on Wednesday introduced ordinances for annexing two parcels of land - one at the town's north border and one at its south. The council decided in November to pursue annexation plans. The north parcel includes the site of the planned senior citizen housing complex, while the south parcel will draw in properties from the current southern boundary to the Tippecanoe River and east to CR 825. Along with introduction of the annexation ordinances, the council signed a resolution approving its plan to provide services.Property incorporated into the town will be afforded the same benefits of that already within the boundaries.Among these are sanitary sewer service, streets and roadways, street lighting and police protection. The matter is set for public hearing at noon Dec.23 in the town hall.

Triton Builds For This Year

First it was basketball. Now it may be baseball. The Triton Trojan basketball team went 16-6, its best season in years. Now the Triton Trojan baseball team hopes to do the same. Triton's baseball team went 15-10 last year, and head coach Jim Shively expects his players to be even better this year. "I've been a varsity head coach for four years, and this should by far be our best team," he said. Why is he optimistic? Because he has returning starters.Only one player - starting pitcher Ryan Hensley - graduated. Regulars back include catcher David Sauer, first baseman Kyle Gould, second baseman Brad Hargrave, third baseman Kevin Oxley, shortstop Cory Monesmith, center fielder Scott Blackford and right fielder Derek Ganshorn. "That leaves only left field," Shively said.

Allebach To Run For Mayor Of Warsaw

Craig Allebach announced his intention yesterday to enter the Warsaw mayoral race, a position held by another member of the Republican Party, Ernie Wiggins. "I want to offer people a choice in leadership," Allebach said of his decision."There are things I'd like to see happen, but I'll rely on what people say they want." As a three-term member of Warsaw Community Schools board of trustees, serving as president the past five years; Winona Lake town coordinator; chief of Grace Campus' campus security; and a retired police officer, Allebach has a long history of working with the public. He cited two recent examples of how the public's input decided events: "When citizens said, 'Don't close Silver Lake Elementary School,' we didn't," he said of a WCS board decision last year. "And when they said, 'No sewers in South Town,' they didn't go in," he said referring to hearings before the Winona Lake town council.
