County Jail Bookings The following people were preliminarily charged and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail: • 10:18 a.m. Monday – Courtney Christine Bowling, 27, of 8912 E. CR 500N, North Webster, arrested for probation violation. No bond set.  • 10:43 a.m. Monday – Zachary Chavez Zuniga, 22, of 1007 S. Van Hemert Drive, Syracuse, arrested for failure to appear. No bond set. • 12:25 p.m. Monday – Alice Natissha Woodard, 35, Fremont, arrested for criminal  conversion. Bond: $600.  • 1:28 p.m. Monday – James Cory Beougher, 43, Portland, arrested for failure to appear. Bond: $963.64. • 2:56 p.m. Monday – Dawn Renae Allen, 36, of 8277 E. U.S. 30, Pierceton, arrested for driving while suspended. Bond: $450.  • 4:04 p.m. Monday – Randal Lee Kephart, 27, of 38 EMS C10 Lane, Warsaw, arrested for drug court violation. No bond set.  • 7:02 p.m. Monday – Jason Lee Busz, 36, of 318 S. Union St., Warsaw, arrested for possession of meth, resisting law enforcement, possession of paraphernalia and driving while suspended. Bond: $5,250.

Storm, crime, schools are year's top stories

Sept.11 terrorist attacks and their aftermath are the top news stories of the year nationally.The top local story is also one of destruction. However, the destruction caused locally was due to Mother Nature, not man. Each year, the Times-Union staff votes on the top local stories of the year.The top area stories for 2001 are: 1 - On Oct.24, tornadoes ripped through Kosciusko County. Two factories were among the damaged structures in the county, with Da-Lite Screen Co.Inc.on Ind.15N the hardest hit and R.R.Donnelley & Sons sustaining significant damage to the east plant.At least 14 people were reported injured at Da-Lite. The American Red Cross said 136 single-family properties were damaged by the tornadoes.
