10 Years Ago Football coach Phil Jensen had a reason to be excited. For the first time since 1973, the Warsaw Tigers defeated the NorthWood Panthers at Fisher Field. The 22-16 win also marked the first time the Tigers have ever defeated the Panthers in back-to-back seasons. Homecoming festivities were still going on when NorthWood and Warsaw returned to the field after half-time The homecoming announcements had to be cut short, or Warsaw would have faced a 15-yard penalty for delaying the beginning of the second half. Regardless, it didn’t dampen the Tiger spirits. 25 Years Ago This is a dessert recipe from the Spotlight Recipe Contest for Southern Comfort. 8 cups bread, broken (any type); 4 cups milk; 2 cups sugar; 8 tbsp. butter, melted; 3 eggs; 2 tbsp. vanilla; 1 cup raisins; 1 tsp. cinnamon; 1 tsp. nutmeg; 1 cup coconut; 1 cup chopped pecans. “Sauce”: 1/2 cup butter; 1-1/2 cup powdered sugar; 1 egg; 1/3 cup Bourbon. Combine all ingredients. Pour mixture into 9”x9” dish. Place in non-preheated oven. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. To make the sauce: cream butter, sugar over medium heat until absorbed. Add egg, Bourbon over low heat until sauce thickens. Stir constantly. Judy is a speech major. 75 Years Ago Mary Jane McKown and her juvenile dancing class of 12 young ladies recently stole the limelight from professional performers, and won their way into the hearts of nearly 10,000 onlookers who packed the south side of the court yard to see their fancy dancing entertainment. The troupe was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Fred McKown. Chester Jontz, member of the fair committee, introduced each performer and her number. The program opened with “Skaters’ Waltz,” a waltz clog featuring little June and Joyce Melick.

Fresh off of a sectional title won last Thursday, the Warsaw Lady Tiger tennis team arrived hungry for more upon arriving at the IHSAA Girls Tennis Regional at Culver Academy Tuesday afternoon. Warsaw was able to defeat Northern Lakes Conference opponent Plymouth 4-1 to advance to the regional final.
A week after both teams won their opening games of the season by seven touchdowns or more, Triton and LaVille looked to face off in a much more highly contested game to open up Hoosier North Athletic Conference play. It remained that way for a half before the Lancers opened it up with a four-touchdown third quarter for a 56-14 victory. LaVille improves to 2-0 this fall, while Triton falls to 1-1, and 0-1 in the HNAC.
