10 Years Ago March 20 1990 Area students got a taste of the army when a U.S.Army Blackhawk Helicopter, regularly based at Fort Campbell, Ky., was on display at Tippecanoe Valley High School.Army officials visited the school to educate students about qualifications and benefits of joining the warrant officer flight training program. Qualifications include perfect vision, excellent physical health, basic training and graduation from the officer training program. 25 Years Ago March 20 1975 Warsaw Freshman High School student, Sheree Taylor, who competed in the biological sciences category of the Senior Division Regional Science Fair recently at Notre Dame University, South Bend, won first place in competition with senior students of this region.
10 Years Ago July 12 1991 Biomet Inc., of Warsaw, announced a working agreement with United States Surgical Corp.of Norwalk, Conn., to produce a line of bioresorbable orthopedic products. The new products will be absorbed gradually by the body after implantation, eliminating the need to remove them later.They may be used to repair small bone fractures, injuries to the head and in surgery, said Biomet spokesman Greg W.Sasso.

10 Years Ago July 10 1991 Construction is on schedule at the site of the Zimmer corporation office building in downtown Warsaw.Zimmer spokesperson Jane Norton said the 100,000-square-foot building is scheduled for occupancy in the spring of 1992.Approximately 200 employees will be working in the new building. 25 Years Ago July 10 1976 Pfc.Michael Allen, son of Douglass and Lorrain Allen, of Syracuse, and a 1975 graduate of Wawasee High School, has been assigned as a military police patrolman at Fort Richardson, Alaska, after having completed basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.and advanced individual training at the USA Military Police School, Fort McClellan, Alaska.
10 Years Ago July 10 1992 Everett Juday is proving that it's never too late to try something new.Juday, who is 93 years old, plans to take his first flying lesson this weekend at the Warsaw Airport, weather permitting.Juday lives in Florida during the winter, but spends time with his family in Warsaw during the summer.He's not sure this first lesson will lead to a pilot's license, but apparently he wants to give flying a try. 25 Years Ago July 10 1977 Douglas M.Ringer, Warsaw, received a Certificate of Achievement after completing a five-day seminar at Vespa of America Corp.'s headquarters in South San Francisco, Calif.Ringer is associated with Ringer Cycle Sales, 251 N.Indiana St., Warsaw.

Wilson, who has been a general practitioner in Mentone for nearly 37 years, retired on July 1. 25 Years Ago July 11 1976 The Triton High School Marching Trojans won first place in "Class B" competition at the recent Mermaid Festival."Class B" includes bands from schools having an enrollment of 600 or less.All bands were judged on a four-minute show performed prior to the parade.In addition to the trophy, the band was awarded a check for $500.Sandy Coplen and Amy Sharkey are drum majorettes and Donna Person is the band director.

10 Years Ago June 10 1990 Larry D.McDonald completed the Northern Indiana Public Service Company's gas serviceman apprentice program on April 12.He completed the apprentice program in 30 months, six less than the normal length of apprenticeship to qualify as a serviceman.McDonald, who joined NIPSCO in 1960, held various mechanic and welder positions prior to entering the apprenticeship program in 1987.

The appointment was made last night during the public hearing on the town's 1976 budget.Knispel resigned from the town board after being defeated by Cripe in the Republican caucus recently.

As had been rumored for some time, the 37-year-old Bolinger Friday was appointed Warsaw Community High School head football coach at a special noon meeting of the Warsaw School Board.A native of Warsaw, he comes home after a successful seven-year stint as head coach at Bluffton High School.

Professors in biblical studies at the seminary name one student each year to receive the honor.The award is the only academic honor given a first-year seminary student.
