10 Years Ago July 26 1990 Anne Louise Groniger, Rt.3, Pierceton, was awarded a $500 scholarship from the Indiana Sheriff's Association.Kosciusko County Sheriff Ron Robinson presented the certification.Groniger is planning to attend Indiana University in Bloomington to major in criminal justice. 25 Years Ago July 26 1975 Robert E.Meade, 70, Rt.6, Warsaw, retired after 15 years service at the Warsaw Post Office.Meade received a plaque from Gene Swank, Warsaw postmaster.Meade was also presented a wrist watch by his fellow employees.He and his wife, Josephine, will be moving to Florida to make their retirement home.

We have an abundance of wonderful adult cats, already vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and ready to go to good homes.

10 Years Ago June 27 1991 Warsaw dentist Archie F.Ferguson, DDS, is retiring after 35 years of providing dental care to his patients.The retirement will allow Dr.Ferguson and his wife, Betty, who has been an integral part of the dental office, to spend more time pursuing their leisure activities. 25 Years Ago June 27 1976 Joann Rassi, Miss Milford, was crowned the 1976 Queen of Lakes Saturday night during ceremonies, which climaxed the 31st annual Mermaid Festival in North Webster.Rassi, winner of the swimsuit competition at the festival Friday, is the daughter of Mr.and Mrs.Lowell Rassi of Milford.

10 Years Ago December 1 1990 Warsaw Postmaster Bob Douglas is headed for retirement after 42 years with the U.S.Postal Service.Prior to his 13 years as postmaster at Warsaw, Douglas served as Jonesboro postmaster, Kokomo superintendent and had worked on a mail train for 16 years. 25 Years Ago December 1 1975 The Times-Union December calendar girl is 5-year-old Michelle (Missy) Beam, daughter of Mr.and Mrs.Robert Beam, Rt.7, Warsaw.For herself, Michelle is hoping Santa will bring a doll this year.Michelle has two brothers, Mike, 14, and Brian, 11.She attends a local nursery school one-half day and will start regular school next year.

10 Years Ago July 27 1990 Adam Jeffers, a junior at Warsaw Community High School, has been selected to the youth council of the Indiana Youth Institute as a representative of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kosciusko County. The newly-formed council will meet regularly to plan a youth conference and coordinate activities of a local youth network.Adams is one of 150 young adults invited to attend a four-day conference at Bradford Woods, Martinsville. 25 Years Ago July 27 1975 The South Shore Women's golf group played a blind partners tourney with the team of Lori Welty and Blanche Thornburg winning the nine hole group. Stella Heckaman and Suzie Hully tied with Ellie Caudill and Jo Waltz for top spot in the 18 hole group.

10 Years Ago March 4 1990 Ruth Johnson, an English as a Second Language student with Adult Basic Education, has recently received her American citizenship.Johnson's native language is Portuguese.She began studying English with tutor Karen Thomas in 1986 after moving here from Brazil with her husband, Jim.During the past three years, Johnson has progressed from knowing no English to learning the skills necessary to obtain the citizenship test. 25 Years Ago March 4 1975 Hollis Earnhart, Rt.1, Pierceton, was recently honored by his fellow men of the Pierceton fire department in recognition of 30 years as a volunteer fireman.Upon retirement at the end of 1974, Earnhart was given an engraved wrist watch.Fire Chief Merritt Hyndman presented the award.
