- Don't Drink And Drive - Webster School Debt - Ferguson Raceway - Gay Libbers - Sympathy For A Soldier Don't Drink And Drive Editor, Times-Union: This letter is to everyone young, old, black, white, rich and poor.I want to address the effects of alcohol that helped me get put in prison. I say helped because I knew that I shouldn't drink and drive, but due to the consumption of alcohol, I made a very poor choice on the night of July 8, 2005.That night I lost a very good friend of mine.As a matter of fact, I was at his side when he took his last few breaths of life.I do not ever want to to see or hear the things I did that night. It will haunt me for the rest of my life.

- Bring Back The Draft - Gun Ban Bring Back The Draft Editor, Times-Union: I would like and answer to this question - Just what is wrong with reinstating the draft? Right now our armed services are made up of weekend warriors (which I have no problem with by the way), kids who have gotten in trouble with the law and were given the choice of the armed services or jail.Guys and gals who can't find jobs or want the schooling which is given in the service (but are not in the service to be in combat) - and a few good men and women who are in the service to serve their country.

- Barbee Sewers - Trust Laws - Disbro Thanks - Robbery - Iraq Barbee Sewers Editor, Times-Union: The recent letter to the editor by Mr.Thompson concerning high water and the proposed new sewer system leaves me rather perplexed. A new sewer system is not going to do anything for the high water problem at Barbee Lakes (as well as Ridinger Lake, Tippecanoe Lake, etc.).I do certainly agree that the high water problem needs to be addressed and has needed addressing for over 20 years.Cleaning the Tippecanoe River several years ago at a cost of several hundred thousands of dollars obviously did little or nothing to solve the high water problem.

- Level Playing Field Level Playing Field Editor, Times-Union: Former Governor Otis R."Doc" Bowen taught me a cardinal principle of public service. When seeking election, he said that one's candidacy should always be just what it appears to be. He said this allows the voters an opportunity to make an informed decision when going to the polls on who best would serve their interests. I am moved to write this letter in that in elections today, all too often we see the presence of the lack of a level playing field. It is prevalent in many national and state elections, and I am becoming aware this is happening with our local upcoming May 2 primary election for the office of sheriff. This concerns me as everyone, most importantly the voters, deserves a level playing field.

- Whitaker For Sheriff - One America - Jackson Township Whitaker For Sheriff Editor, Times-Union: We, as former (and present) prosecuting attorneys of Kosciusko County, are aware of the critical importance of the sheriff to good law enforcement.Obviously, good police work is essential to obtaining the evidence necessary to prosecute a case in court. In addition, a good sheriff also provides the judicial system with that intangible "sense of the community" which is essential to the proper exercise of prosecutorial and judicial discretion. Kosciusko County has been blessed for years with several exceptional sheriffs. It is easy to take this blessing for granted, but it must be preserved by making wise choices among sheriff candidates.
