- Bible Context - Endicott Investigation - Miffed At School Board - Labor Day Telethon - Love Your Enemies - Prejudice - Coulter Column - Lazy Managing Editor Bible Context Editor, Times-Union: In a reply to a previous letter to you, I was accused of taking the Bible out of context.I dispute such an assertion, but if I did so, perhaps Mr.Wickens could further elucidate. That gentleman stated that no writer to you had quoted Leviticus 20:13, which paraphrased loosely imposes a death penalty among those who engage in homosexual behavior.I did read such a letter in this column about a month ago.

- Lawshe Comments - Love Lawshe Comments Editor, Times-Union: I am appalled at the statements and the attitude of Warsaw City Councilman Dewey Lawshe regarding Police Chief Craig Allebach as reported in the Times-Union.Warsaw is blessed with one of the finest police departments anywhere. We have more than a 90 percent solve rate on serious crimes. The police department on a regular basis over many years spends under its budgets and returns money to the treasury. We have a Warsaw Citizens Police Academy that is a model for the country in the area of public and police cooperation. Our sworn officers are some of the best trained and most professional in the country. All of this has come about under the watch of Chief Allebach. His leadership and professionalism should be commended.

- Polling Places - Positive Feedback - Double Play For MDA - Aviary Thanks - Leaders - Winter Charity Drive - Veterans Day Polling Places Editor, Times-Union: All new voter registration cards are now issued with this printed on them for a location: "POLLING PLACE IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME." Inside the folded card the instructions say for any questions, call the phone number printed on the front of the card. There is no phone number listed on the card. After missing the last election because of this "flumadiddle," I called the County Offices and was eventually forwarded to the County Clerk's Office.

- McCarthyism - Police Department - Pierceton Christmas - Gasoline Prices McCarthyism Editor, Times-Union: I quote a letter to the editor in an area paper dated Dec.17 by the Rev.Noel G.Reed, a Methodist minister. He said that "those seeking a pound of flesh have again crawled out of the woodwork unfurling the insensitivity banner."He described this action as "McCarthyism revisited."Rev.Reed told me that he was amazed at how few people that he talked to remembered what McCarthyism was/is.

- Bad Sports Page - Hoops Observations - 'Da Vinci Code' - Great Wall - Everyone Loses - Class Basketball - Pray For Sister - Vote For Hayhurst Bad Sports Page Editor, Times-Union: So this is what Tiger sports coverage has become. In a matter of several years, the once good sports page in the Times-Union has become the weapon of choice to bludgeon a good coach and a great human being.Fewer and fewer subscriptions, and fewer and fewer readers, results in cheap shots from the cheap shots in hopes of drawing the attention back to print media that struggles to be mediocre.

- Responds To Short Memory - Daniels And IPALCO Responds To Short Memory Editor, Times-Union: I'm writing in response to "Short Memory" by J.Robert and Jodie Boggs Sept.21.This entire article is obviously just more Republican drivel and propaganda. The visceral attack on the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anan is an outrage. Those who accuse Mr.Anan of having a short memory seem to have no recollection of past events period.Kofi Anan has been making these statements since the war in Iraq began. In March Mr.Anan said, "The war in Iraq is illegal and the United States is in violation of the U.N.charter, and the Geneva convention!" The Bush administration with its rush to war, ignored the vote of the U.N.security council, arrogantly calling the United Nation irrelevant.

- Disrespectful - Abortion - Biofuels Plant Disrespectful Boy, if you were one of those in attendance at Blackford High School on Saturday watching the boys basketball Regionals, You were treated to some great, classic, Indiana style basketball. And you would have also been as outraged and hurt as I was, at the trashing of our National Anthem by the Tippecanoe Valley student body. Right before tip off, and in front of a few thousand fans, a handful of very talented Blackford County girls were singing our National Anthem acoustically. When the final verse came, the student body of Tippecanoe all shouted "VIKINGS" loudly over the last word in the song. The entire gym seemed shocked; I know I was.

- Y2K - Economic Development - Chili Auction - Thanks To A Great Young Man Y2K Editor, Times-Union: Quite a number of people obviously have the jitters over what may happen when the clock strikes midnight on Dec.31, 1999.They think that anyone who is not afraid is just plain ignorant; that we don't know enough of the facts facing us in this computer age to be scared. They think we're trying the trick of hiding our heads in the proverbial sand, denying all the problems that we face and those we may face. But fear and worry reduce our power to solve problems! That attitude hinders rather than helping.

- Valley Principal Responds - Valley Injustice - Important Ordinance - Valley Apology - Valley Injustice - Iraq Valley Principal Responds Editor, Times-Union: Our boys basketball team was honored to have won our IHSAA sectional and participate in the regional tournament at Blackford High School on March 11.While we did not win our round-one game with Jay County High School, the Tippecanoe Valley community can be proud of the way our student athletes represented our school, community and Kosciusko County.Even in defeat they were winners and demonstrated how athletics, at its best, should look.

- Election Signs - Corneal Tissue - Partial-Birth Abortion - Ted Carter - Local Attorney - Free Speech Election Signs Editor, Times-Union: I wanted to share my thoughts and opinions with regards to the upcoming elections. There are numerous campaign signs posted on state highway property at Parker and U.S.30.Now, I can understand that people running for auditor or controller might not know that it's illegal to post signs on state highway property, but a member of law enforcement should know better.I hope someone else plans on running against Whitaker since he feels he is above the law by posting his signs all over state highway property.

- Redneck Newspaper - Tiger Basketball - Carter Responds - No Disrespect Intended - Opossum Photo - Pray For the Military Redneck Newspaper Editor, Times-Union: You know you might subscribe to redneck paper when you look at the front page headlines and the breaking news of the day shows a large picture of a dead opossum. What was that all about anyhow? I actually thought I would open up the paper and find recipes for roadkill stew inside.Did you really think your subscribers would think this was breaking news they needed to be aware of? How about next time having a live opossum on the front page.
