- Winona Alcohol - Gospel Farm - Liquor And Immorality Winona Alcohol Editor, Times-Union: In response to the "information meeting" hosted by Brent Wilcoxson on Oct.30, in Winona Lake Grace Brethren: The subject was not Winona Lake development as was suggested by the home-delivered flyer, or the fancy maps given out by Mr.Wilcoxson, or his color slides of the proposed building and landscape changes.
- KLVA - Line-Item Veto - Winona Meeting - Misinformation KLVA Editor, Times-Union: Kosciusko Literacy Volunteers of America (KLVA) recently completed a tutor training workshop in conjunction with the Alternative Learning Center's volunteer coordinator, Donna Bower. It was a surprise to me at the workshop to hear one of our trainees say, "I didn't even know this place was here." I've been wondering since then how many other people who live in our community do not know the Alternative Learning Center exists, and therefore, most certainly do not know what happens there.
- Winona - Politicians Winona Editor, Times-Union: We put up unneeded stop signs because it will make it safer for our little children. On the other hand, we build a restaurant and restore a hotel that will sell liquor, making it unsafe for our little children (unless we vacate all of the streets in town so no one can drive). People are saying that it is OK to sell liquor because other things are being done now that were not allowed years ago (purchasing and use of cigarettes, swimming on Sundays, and cursing and swearing). That is real good reasoning, people! Is that how we bring our children up - they are going to do wrong anyhow, so why not allow it now? Let's not let one wrong be done because other wrongs are being done.
- On Death And Dying - Right-Wing Absurdity - Gays - Rights - More On NIPSCO On Death And Dying Editor, Times-Union: This seems to be the season or time of year when retailers and Uncle Sam nudge you to get organized, so I waited until now to present my plight. I lost my father 21 months ago and his estate was finally settled this past Thanksgiving. How often do we go from day to day and never think that today or this week may be our last? No one likes to think of dying or death.Everyone wants to live - I know and don't blame anyone for having that desire.
- License Plates - CTR - Health Benefits - Gun Laws - Line-Item Veto - Syracuse Concern License Plates Editor, Times-Union: Well, people, we knew it would happen. The state is going to raise the cost of getting your plates. But wait, you say, they just reduced them.TOUGH, we need the money for road improvements. But wait, you cry again in dismay, what about all that excess money they claim to have! That's a good idea, you say, and I agree 100%, but then we're also dealing with the government, although it is only on the state level, common sense takes a back seat.

- Stray Dogs - Meaning Of Freedom - Drunk Driving - Local Politics Stray Dogs Editor, Times-Union: After reading all the articles and letters to the editor in the Times-Union concerning Herschel Rainwater's proposed stray dog ordinance, my conclusion is that he is on a personal crusade to solve a problem that is not as large as he would want us all to believe. He has stated, "I among others, many others," also "he was asked by several people to make the request."I would like to hear from all these, "many others" and "several people."He seems to be the only one speaking out.
