- Stamp Out Hunger - Don't Sell Guns - Buy Your Kid A Gun - Thanks From Fashion Show Stamp Out Hunger Editor, Times-Union: Combined Community Services would like to express our gratitude to the Warsaw postal workers and their families for all the hard work they put into a successful "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. On a wet and cold Saturday, the postal workers kept to their slogan and delivered around 5,000 pounds of nonperishable food items to CCS. For five years in a row, the postal workers have been delivering this food for CCS at a time in the year when our pantry is starting to run low.The food that was collected will stay in Kosciusko County and put food on the table for many families that are in need of food during the summer months.

First off, I would like to thank Warsaw Public Library. They have always been very helpful by helping me on and off the wheelchair lift, finding materials and making sure I get on my bus when it is time to leave. Another big thank you to the kind staff at Marsh Supermarket. They always greet me with a smile and always go out of their way to make sure I am taken care of in a prompt and delightful manor.
- Offensive Advertising - Clinton's Legacy - Relay For Life - Flag Burning Offensive Advertising Editor, Times-Union: I was amazed when I booted up my computer and clicked on my Internet icon and KC Online opening page contain a picture of a lady advertising a lap dance.A man at work was talking about such a dance in where once inside a strip club, the female dancer dances on the laps of her potential customers enticing them to further acts in the back room.Is this the kind of advertisements we want on our computer screens? Noooooooooo.
- Hospital Sale - Evolution - House Fire - Man Of The Year Hospital Sale Editor, Times-Union: Recent sales of local businesses to large corporate entities has me somewhat concerned. In light of the most recent sale of our community-funded hospital to the infamous Quorum Corporation, this must certainly be on a lot of people's minds. Most often these transactions are purported to represent an increase in quality of services, but the reality is usually exactly the opposite. Take Kroger's for instance, not only do most of my favorite brands begin to disappear but the quality of what remains begins to go downhill as well.
- Politicians - Tobacco - Abortion Policy - Father's Day - Fine Fish Fry Politicians Editor, Times-Union: Some of the Democrats and Republicans must be real proud of the mess that they have made.Since some of them say that if you are not one of them you should not have the right to run for office. Many of them that have not said it must believe it, since they do not think that petitions should be signed to get independents on the ballot. Are you afraid that someone more capable might get elected? You should be proud. You have given us some of the best politicians that money can buy.And some of them have already been bought, but not by you.

- Gun Laws - Jail Conditions - Code Enforcement - Animal Welfare - Prairie View Thanks - Voting - Angels Among Us - Safe Boating Gun Laws Editor, Times-Union: Thank God above, the congress passed another gun law today, now there won't be any more high school shootings, yeah right, personally, I think we need to impeach the congress for wasting the tax payer's money. They spent a whole day on a piece of paper that won't stop anyone, what a joke, and we're paying for this. It's not the gun, it's the person behind the gun.If a law that should be passed, it's a law that says parents need to teach their kids right from wrong and discipline.Have a nice day.
- Bylines - Fair Bingo - Gun Study - Great Kids - Silver Lake Thanks Bylines Editor, Times-Union: Once again, I read a column in your paper, and liked it very much.I quickly looked to see who had written such an entertaining and enlightening piece.Once again, no author's name appeared."Scripps Howard," it says.Scripps Howard is a news service, not a writer. They syndicate the writing of others, and distribute it.
- Winona - John Weyler Winona Editor, Times Union: My wife and I appreciate all the renovations that are occurring in Winona Lake.Even though we are not residents, we enjoy seeing the town come back to life.A big "thank you" to all the hard workers out there. As a member of one of the churches "that have Winona Lake in their name," I read with interest the story in the paper Oct.15."Alcohol Sales Not An Issue For Council: Wilcoxson" left me with a few questions.
- Nursing Homes - Irresponsibility - Weather Photo - Missed Nursing Homes Editor, Times-Union: Some of you may have read about or heard recent news stories about nursing homes that give poor care or abuse their residents. This is horrifying, and makes people wary about all nursing homes.President Clinton has reacted to this news by recently announcing tough new legislative and administrative actions to improve the quality of nursing homes and give penalties to homes that do not follow the rules.

- NIPSCO - Challenge Met - Property Owners' Rights - What DARE Means - KCH Funds - KCH And EDIT - Worker's Comp - New Tax Group NIPSCO Editor, Times-Union: There has been concern about the NIPSCO operating headquarters closing in Warsaw, and the people that provide the best and fast service that we should expect from a provider will be moved.Lengthening the response time to a gas leak or electric outage can be the only result of such a move.Your concerns on emergency services need to be heard.
- Taking Advantage - Birth Defects - Wake Up, People - Fond Farewell Taking Advantage Editor, Times-Union: Why do some people take advantage of others? Particularly, used car salesmen. I have always been leery of car salesmen, and now I have one more reason to feel that way.A couple of months ago, I helped my mother find a "new" used car.We shopped around and a couple of dealers knew what we were looking for, and at what price. We received a call from a local dealer who had a "great" car at a "great" price. We test drove it, had a couple of friends look at it to check it out and decided to purchase it along with the warranty they offered.
- FDIC Rules - Drive Carefully - Reminiscing - Elected Officials - FDIC Proposal FDIC Rules If you have not heard already through media sources, there are new rules proposed by the Treasury Department along with the Federal Reserve and FDIC to require all commercial banks to require customers to reveal all sources of income. With that information, banks will establish a customer profile and monitor deposits and withdrawals and can choose to report to an international task force any deviation from routine as suspicious activity.Known as the Know Your Customer program for public relations reasons, the Minimum Security Devices and Procedures and Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Program will give unprecedented power for government surveillance of American citizens.
- Get Tough On Crime - The American People Get Tough On Crime Editor, Times-Union: In the FBI annual crime reports, they define violent crime as murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults. Violent criminals are only serving one-third of their sentences in many cases. On average: 7.7 years for murder; 4.6 years for rape; 3.3 years for robbery; and 1.9 years for aggravated assault. Bill Clinton and Janet Reno should spend more time on getting tough on crime and less time trying to chip away at law abiding citizens' right to keep and bear arms. The University of Chicago concluded a study "Allowing Law Abiding Citizens to Carry Concealed Weapons Deters Violent Crime."All the laws in the world will not work unless they are enforced.
