- Cemetery Defended - Heartline - Opening Day - Exchange Students Cemetery Defended Editor, Times-Union: We are appalled! The sexton, Dave Shaw, runs the cemetery by the book! He has always been sensitive and considerate of our families feelings. Our father, John Dove, was buried in Oakwood December 1998 and overnight all of his flowers were eaten by the deer.At first we were upset and went to the office to complain that vandals had cut off all our father's flowers, that's what it had looked like, after they explained that it wasn't vandals that in fact the deer love the fresh flowers, we were fine. There isn't anyone who can control those deer from nibbling on the flowers or bushes that are planted there. It's a chance you take anywhere you plant something.

- School Closings - Blood Donations - Misleading Advertising School Closings Editor, Times-Union: The current WCS administration, and a portion of the school board of trustees, portrays the Sept.15th vote to close the three rural elementary schools - Atwood, Claypool and Silver Lake - as the end of the story.I, on the other hand, think this is where it begins.

- Hardly Abusive - Special Election - Career Moves - BZA Complaint Hardly Abusive Editor, Times-Union: "My, oh my, what is wrong with today's youth?" many people say.Well could it be that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the kids, but perhaps faulty parenting by people who refuse to teach their children to act appropriately and letting them get away with rude and unruly behavior beginning at a very young age? I was raised by people who taught me how to behave and how to have respect for others.I must say, those lessons have served me very well and have gotten me a long way in life.

- Trick-Or-Treat - Recycling - Where's The Justice - Flat Earth Society Trick-Or-Treat Editor, Times-Union: To the Pierceton resident who was so worried about giving candy to children from out of town? Three of those children you questioned were my grandchildren. They are from North Webster. You take your children where you know it's safe. It's too bad Pierceton has people like you.And my grandchildren will be trick or treating next year, so turn your lights off and sit in the dark.

- Neighborhood Safety - Pray For Iraq - America The Blind Neighborhood Safety Editor, Times-Union: When will it become a different story on the neighborhood safety with the fenced hunting that is going on in Kosciusko County? There has been unsafe use of the bow and arrow on the property. The property owner had stated that no hunter is alone when hunting. That is untrue. We have already had our house shot at.Have a hole to prove it.Is this safe hunting? No. The property owner wants to put up a flagpole and run up a flag when hunters are around. With having elk there to hunt now, that means that the flag would be up 365 days a year. We as neighbors to not feel that we should have to spend our time inside to be safe.

- Talk To Your Kids - Scouts And Demos - Signs Vandalized - Giving Sight Talk To Your Kids Editor, Times-Union: As parents and children enter the 2000-2001 school year, I would like to share some information I came across.During my short three years as Kosciusko County Sheriff's DARE Officer, I have met approximately 7,000 students, parents and some grandparents.I have three school corporations and the children from all three basically have the same wants and needs. The one that sticks out the most is: "I wish my parents or parent and even my grandparent would talk and spend personal time with me."As a parent of three myself I have sometimes fallen short on this one request.

- Vote - Help Someone - Not God Vote Editor, Times-Union: If you don't vote, politicians will blame you and not themselves. They will say you are apathetic. If you vote Libertarian, where Libertarians appear on the ballot, the two major parties will know you are not apathetic and maybe next time they will run somebody you can vote for.Be a true patriot.Don't stay home.Get out and vote Libertarian. Charles Carnes Warsaw Help Someone Editor, Times-Union: My heart breaks; oh, how the heathen rage! Who will stand up and resist these sinful, unnatural, immoral beliefs? Are we losing our minds? If there are any Christians out there, they'd better get out and pound the pavement and go to the down and out and the up and out.

- Debate? What Debate? - Project Derailed Debate? What Debate? Editor, Times-Union: While experts debate who won the first presidential debates, the real losers were the American public, who didn't hear a genuine alternative like Libertarian presidential candidate Harry Browne. The debate wasn't a choice, it was an echo. For 90 minutes, the words "liberty" or "freedom" weren't mentioned a single time. Instead, you had one candidate, Republican George W.Bush, who wants to make government much bigger, and you had another candidate, Democrat Al Gore, who wants to make government much, much bigger.

- Look At The Facts - Silver Lake School - Honor Our Veterans - Candidate Speaks - Common Ground Look At The Facts Editor, Times-Union: Before people just blindly follow Al Gore, one should look at the facts. Please remember that before the Republicans took control of both houses that the Contract with America was called a risky scheme and would never work. Before the Republicans took over both houses Mr.Clinton and Mr.Gore passed the largest tax increase during peace time.Mr.Clinton's and Mr.Gore's administration is one of the most investigated administrations that I can remember.

- Save The Deer - Recycling Machine - Polston Says Thanks - Hoffman Lake Property Save The Deer Editor, Times-Union: I see in the paper Mr.Shenefield of Pam Street wants all the deer in town killed and even worse, he wants them poisoned. That would be a horrible way to die.I'm sure he wouldn't like that kind of treatment. He could put up a fence or better yet, feed them.If he can buy $4000 worth of flowers, he could buy a little feed for them, and they probably wouldn't bother his flowers. We keep taking all the land and woods to build houses, so where are they supposed to go? and as far as I know there are none of those diseases you are talking about in Indiana.

- Campaign Finance - Don't Judge - Focus On Safety - Say Yes To Ballot Question - Gore And Abortion - Vote Roemer - Rich Man's News Campaign Finance Editor, Times-Union: The amount of money being spent by the politicians in this campaign is a disgrace. There is no reason to campaign on radio and television longer than 30 days prior to the election and no more than three times per day. This is ample time for a candidate to tell us why he or she should be given the job being applied for.The excess money being expended should better be used to provide food for the hungry.
