To help answer this question, the first of three "town hall" meetings to identify the educational needs in Kosciusko County was held recently at Kosciusko County Foundation. Approximately 25 people attended, representing local businesses, schools, home-schooling programs, retired people and foundations. The meetings are part of the Foundation's efforts to get funding from the Lilly Endowment Inc.'s Community Alliances to Promote Education.25 Years AgoOn Tuesday, April 8 all Warsaw third-graders will be belted -- by Beltman. The latest superhero travels to elementary schools around the state teaching kids of the importance of buckling their seat belts. David Keeney, who is Beltman, has been putting on the safety demonstrations since October 1985. The program, which consists of a film strip and a practice session where all students in the class get to buckle up, takes about a half hour. The children are also taught how to get out of a seat belt quickly if needed. "You can't be stuck in a seat belt. While not admitting it, politicians are as a class suspicious. Woodrow Wilson claimed the 13th was his lucky day and Franklin Roosevelt is credited with considering Friday his lucky day. Some candidates would not file on April Fools Day for fear that they might be fooled by the voters at the polls and be defeated.

NAPPANEE – Joy B. Miller, 84, of 802 S. Elm St., Nappanee, died at 3:15 a.m. Feb. 10, 2012, in Courtyard Nursing Home, Goshen, where she had been admitted four weeks ago.
KOKOMO – Donald Earl Swick, 79, of Kokomo, and formerly of Warsaw, passed away at 2:23 p.m. Dec. 4, 2011, in Howard Regional Health System, Kokomo.
COLUMBIA CITY – Paul V. Sheets, 74, of Columbia City, and formerly of Larwill, died at 8 a.m. Sept. 26, 2011, in Parkview Oaks, where he was a resident since Aug. 4.
NORTH MANCHESTER – Frances Marie Bowman Sutton, 86, of Lafayette and formerly of North Manchester, died at 9:14 a.m. Aug. 18, 2012, in IU Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, surrounded by her loving family, after a one-week battle with leukemia.
Mabel Hilda "Micky" Kurtaneck, 91, Winona Lake, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2016, at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake. She was born June 8, 1925, in Derby, England, to James Frederick and Hilda Frost Walmsley. On Aug. 26, 1944, she was married to Nickolas Kurtaneck, who passed away in 2009.
SYRACUSE – Gretchen A. Genshaw, 82, Syracuse, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Nov. 19, 2016, at her home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Kankakee, Ill., to Melvin R. and Lucy Marie Boyer Dean.
