- Animal Welfare - Roemer Donations Animal Welfare Editor, Times-Union: Our humane society or whatever name they want the name to be... Is it humane to put to sleep unwanted animals and to keep alive our human murderers in their cells for 20-30 years? I know animal care is costly. We have a 12-pound house dog and we feed our squirrels and birds. We provide clean water daily for the birdbath.

Experienced Eagles Too Much For Tiger Boys

A pair of varsity boys basketball teams that battled to a five-point decision in overtime a year ago, Warsaw and Columbia City were about as close Saturday night as ice water is to coffee. Returning nearly everyone from a team that went 19-3 last year, experience played a key role in Columbia City's 53-30 win over the host Tigers, who graduated nearly everyone from last year's 21-3 team. After picking up a win over Gary Wirt in his varsity debut Wednesday, new Warsaw coach Doug Ogle tabbed his Tigers as "decided underdogs" against Columbia City.In a game that was never closer than 10 points in the second half, both Warsaw and Columbia City backed up the statement.

Poor Second Half Finishes Warriors

Heading into Saturday's basketball matchup facing a very athletic DeKalb Baron squad, Wawasee coach Phil Mishler knew his team would face heavy pressure from the Baron defense. Mishler was hoping his players would rise to the occasion against a good opponent. The Warriors played with the Barons for a half before falling 76-54 on Saturday night. "Right now our guys just don't understand how to handle the pressure,' Mishler said."We need to be able to stop the other teams perimeter game if we want a chance to win." The first three minutes started out horribly for the Warriors.DeKalb took a 10-0 lead before the home team knew what hit it.The Barons got scoring from four players in that span.

- Supports Daniels - Supports Sanders - Abstain From Sex Supports Daniels Editor, Times-Union: There is a need for change in the leadership of the State of Indiana. If we look for a moment at our home of Kosciusko County, and then look beyond its borders to the other communities that comprise our great state, we will see a foundation for reform and a basis for rethinking the governmental strategies for putting Indiana in a positive position relative to other states.

- Harwood Tribute - Tragedy - Warsaw Schools - School Closings - Voice Of Reason Harwood Tribute Editor, Times-Union: I'm an employee for the town of Syracuse, and 11 years ago, I was riding in our town vehicle working with Dick Harwood, and he had a massive heart attack and died. A year later I noticed that he never had a headstone to mark his grave. So I began working on getting him one.He served in the Air Force, so I thought the government would furnish one for him, being a veteran and all.But nine years ago before he had died, a fire had consumed and destroyed a lot of the paperwork the government had.So then without his service dates, there wasn't much they could do for me, or for him on getting him a stone.

Sure-Shot Valparaiso Drops Warsaw Boys To 1-2

VALPARAISO - Twenty-first year Warsaw boys basketball coach Al Rhode's scouting report for Saturday's game at Valparaiso couldn't have been more correct. Rhode's research tabbed the Vikings as a three-point shooting machine. In a 70-59 loss, the Tigers found out just how deadly Valparaiso is beyond the arc. In upping their season record to 4-0, the Vikings made good on 9 of 10 three-point attempts, shooting a percentage most coaches would like to see their team hit from the free throw line.

- School Policy - Cardinal Thanks - Witch Hunts School Policy Editor, Times-Union: First of all, I am assuming that the article in the paper was an accurate representation of what Mr.Chamberlain stated.I was not at the meeting, but feel that this is warranted.Do you have something better to do with your time, Mr.Chamberlain? Are you a member of the school board to help or just to get what you want?
