Editor, Times-Union:I have a plan and wonder if perchance it might work to get our government officials’ attention.

Tigers Struggle Against Vikings

This one was a tough game to figure out. Huntington North entered the contest with undefeated Warsaw with an atypical 1-2 mark. The Vikings have a Miss Basketball candidate fouling out with only 10 points and 3 rebounds, while leading scorer Sarah MacKay, who entered the game with a 13.3 points per game average, scored just a single point and was 0-for-4 from the field and 1-for-5 from the free throw line. All this and the Vikings still won by 11 points, 41-30. When answering the question of how, it would be a three-part answer. 1.The Viking defense. Huntington's man-to-man defense smothered the Tigers' guards and didn't allow Warsaw's offense to get into any kind of flow.Warsaw committed 16 turnovers and shot only 9 of 31 from the field.

Residents Oppose Barbee Project

NORTH WEBSTER - A contingent of lake residents of the Barbee chain crowded into a tiny real estate office Tuesday to debate a proposed sewer installation. The project, being planned by the Barbee Lakes Conservancy District with an estimated $18.4 million price tag, would encompass the entire chain of seven lakes. Most citizens present Tuesday were opposed to the project, which is being proposed, according to conservancy president Jack Maule, to ensure the safety of ground water. The conservancy is submitting a facilities plan to the Indiana Department of Environmental management within the next few days.Conservancy attorney Dick Green told the residents they could write letters of opposition and have them included with the plan, or sent directly to IDEM before the end of the week.

Warsaw Spikers Take Wawasee

One injury. Two players. Two teams. One outcome. Both Warsaw and Wawasee had a key player who is suffering from a mild back strain. It was just that the Tigers had the depth to overcome Thursday in big Northern Lakes Conference volleyball matchup, 15-7, 15-8, over the Warriors. Maybe it was too much to ask the Warriors to overcome the absence of middle hitter Lydia Carpenter, who is pretty much Wawasee's go-to player this year.Carpenter, who was checked out by the doctors before the match, was in street clothes watching the match. "Doctors thought it would a little too much for her," Wawasee coach Jason Fleming said."She needs to take a break. We have had some tough matches the last week. She was basically off tonight.

People Who Live In Trailers Are People, Too

An amazing thing happened a while back. A Newsweek editor confessed - more or less - to being biased about the Paula Jones case. He said - more or less - that the media weren't very fair in their treatment of Paula Jones. Basically, the media portrayed her as tramp, he says, and that was not right. "In media accounts, she tends to be portrayed as a trailer park floozy digging for money and celebrity," writes Newsweek Editor Evan Thomas.

"We want to convert that existing building and attach it to our existing building," said Gross. He said the project is close to a $1-million investment. As for the property across the street - Waterworld - he said it, too, is a stumbling block for him because of its unpleasant appearance.
