The 5-foot-7 Poling shot 9 of 13 from the field, including a 6-of-8 performance beyond the arc, and scored 24 points in the 26-point win. Her six three-pointers in one game is a new school record.25 Years AgoThis recipe was submitted in 1985 Spotlight Recipe Contest for Chicken a la King.6 tbsp. butter; 1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced; 1/4 cup diced green pepper; 6 tbsp. all-purpose flour; 3 cups half-and-half; 4 cups cubed, cooked chicken or turkey; 1-4 ounce jar diced pimentos, drained; 2 egg yolks; 2 tbsp. medium sherry; 1 tsp. salt; 8 patty shells, warmed.In a 10-inch skillet over medium heat, in hot butter, cook mushrooms and green pepper 5 minutes or until tender. Stir in four until blended. Gradually stir in half-and-half and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add chicken and pimentos. Heat to boiling, stirring often. Reduce heat to low. Cover and cook 5 minutes. In cup, stir yolks until mixed. Stir in a little hot sauce; slowly pour mixture back into sauce, stirring rapidly to prevent lumping. Cook, stirring until thickened. Stir in sherry and salt and spoon the chicken mixture into patty shells. 10 Years AgoThe 2000 Warsaw football team continued to etch its place in school history with a 41-13 win over Concord at Fisher Field.Not only did Kris Hueber shatter the single-season tackle record with 7:24 left in the second quarter, the Tigers also won the Northern Lakes Conference for the second year in a row. It is the first time in history that Warsaw has won back-to-back NLC titles.25 Years AgoThe Washington Elementary sixth-grade class of Mark Stock recently built a seven-foot-tall replica of the Statue of Liberty. The frame is made of chicken wire and window screen, the head is a foam wig holder and the outer shell is wheat paste and paper. The torch is a light bulb, with the cord running down the arm. The statue took a week to build, with another week devoted to research about it. It was built to teach the pupils more about what the statue represents, liberty and freedom. The sixth-graders are giving presentations to other classes in the school.50 Years AgoThese recipes are from the Woman's Exchange column dated Oct. 14, 1960. Date Pudding: Beat 6 egg yolks and 1 cup sugar; mix 1/2 pound dates, 3 tablespoons flour, and 1/2 pound walnut or pecan meats; add to first mixture. Sprinkle generously with brown sugar and serve slices with crisp bacon. 75 Years AgoA call was issued by Floyd Robbins, Wayne Township trustee, to WPA workers and persons on direct relief for volunteers to dig 1,000 bushels of Irish potatoes from the township gardens. Persons who are willing to dig potatoes should report to the Wayne Township commissary. It is believed that many persons will volunteer to dig the potatoes before the stamp tax is due. The tax on potatoes is being called a "poor man's tax", which the Roosevelt-Tugwell administration is putting into effect.
