Wawasee Wins NLC Match, Championship

SYRACUSE -Ê"It's hard to beat home-cooking." Those were the thoughts of Warsaw golf coach Ben Barkey immediately after Saturday's Northern Lakes Conference championship. It was the second year in a row that the Wawasee Warriors won the event, this time at their home course in Syracuse, South Shore Golf Club. The Warriors shot a remarkable, two-over-par score of 290 to take the event by 12 shots over Concord's score of 302.Warsaw was a shot back at 303 with Plymouth at 305. Warsaw, Wawasee, and Concord all came into the event with identical conference records of 6-1, as Wawasee had beaten Concord, Concord had beaten Warsaw, and Warsaw had beaten Wawasee. The round robin standings coupled with the finish in conference championships would determine the final conference standings so everything was up in the air, but it was Wawasee that finished on top with Concord taking second overall and the Tigers third.

Filmmaker Looks At WCHS For Documentary

Students at Warsaw Community High School can audition Wednesday for a documentary that may be made in Warsaw during their 2005-06 senior school year. Academy Award nominated filmmaker Nanette Burstein is looking at three to four high schools in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania - including Warsaw - to make her documentary "American Teen." "I actually wanted to do a film on high school for years," Burstein said during an interview Friday at the high school. She said she was going to make one on high school football years ago but that didn't happen. She said she finds the age really important as a senior in high school is about to leave the nest."It's important as far as your self identity." Whether the documentary is made at WCHS depends on two factors - school board approval and the senior students who show up for the auditions.Burstein said she wants as many students to be at the auditions as possible who will be seniors during the 2005-06 school year.
