Police Seek Public Help in Credit Card Thefts

Warsaw police are looking for a suspect involved in alleged credit card thefts and fraud and are in need of the public’s help in locating the suspect.

Akron Man Charged with Thefts from Vehicles

A Pierceton man was arrested Friday evening by Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. officers on theft charges involving unlocked vehicles.

South Whitley Bank Robbed; Suspect Held

SOUTH WHITLEY - Another area bank robbery occurred this morning and the suspect is reportedly in custody after a police chase in which several squad cars were damaged. The suspect allegedly rammed a least one of the police cars while the pursuit traveled through Allen County. He was reportedly in custody less than an hour after the 9 a.m.robbery.The identity of the man was not released as of press time. The robbery occurred this morning at the First Federal Bank branch in South Whitley. No specific information about the robbery was available late this morning, but unofficial reports indicate the suspect could be the same man who robbed the Pierceton branch of Lake City Bank April 3. Several such robberies of banks and liquor stores have occurred within the past month in Pierceton, South Whitley, Huntington and North Manchester. Authorities believe the same suspect is responsible for the recent robberies.

Theft Arrest Made Tuesday

Mark Slone, CR 700W, Warsaw, was arrested Tuesday on theft charges relating to the January recovery of thousands of dollars in stolen construction tools found at his residence. In late 2003, multiple building sites and personal residences around the county reported construction materials and tools stolen. In January, after being called to a domestic distubance, police found evidence linking Mark and his brother, Brian, to the thefts. The Slones first were arrested and held on drug charges after police found precursors to methamphetamine in their residences. Detective Travis Marsh, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, said now that the many stolen items have been sorted out they're able to process the theft charges.

Suspected Purse Thief Nabbed By Local Cops

Women leaving their purses in their cars while paying for gasoline have been victims of thefts during the past week or so, but police believe they have the man responsible in custody. Rex Allan Renbarger, 46, of 1611 E.Market St., Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday on one count of theft.He is being held on $2,000 bond. Detective Lt.Steve Adang of the Warsaw Police Department said his agency will seek multiple charges against Renbarger in connection with more than a dozen such thefts that have occurred in the past seven to 10 days. Renbarger was caught Tuesday afternoon after a Warsaw woman identified him as being involved in the theft of her purse while at the Phillips 66 station on North Detroit Street.Gloria Jean Hutcherson gave police a detailed description of Renbarger and the blue pickup he was driving.The vehicle was last seen northbound on North Detroit Street shortly before 4 p.m.

Recent Area Thefts Focus On Heavy Equipment

Several large pieces of excavating machinery were stolen overnight Tuesday. "They're probably connected," said Todd Sautter, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, of the thefts."We don't know for sure, but it's ironic that they were stolen the same night." The equipment may have been stolen for resale purposes, he said. At 9:18 a.m.Wednesday, an employee of LDP Excavating, Warsaw, reported the theft of a mini-excavator from a job site overnight.The machine is valued at approximately $40,450. At 10:23 a.m.Wednesday, Anthony Martin, CR 15, New Paris, reported the theft of a bulldozer from a site.A contractor, Jay Yoder, also reported a $40,000 backhoe stolen from the same vicinity overnight.Tracks indicated the equipment may have been loaded onto a truck and trailer.
