William Grow, Pfc. Lamoine E. Grow’s brother, received the Honor and Remember flag presented by the Indiana Patriot Guard on behalf of Grow’s family at a remembrance service at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw Saturday.
The Honor and Remember flag was personalized for Grow’s family specifically and was sponsored by the Indiana Patriot Guard, a motorcycle group whose motto is “riding with respect.”
The service began with a few words from Northeast Indiana Senior Ride Capt. Russ Bauer, who spoke of remembrance for all veterans and the dedication of the Indiana Patriot Guard to honoring their sacrifice. Bauer described the circumstances of Grow’s death in action, a tragic drowning on Nov. 16, 1966.
John Butler, president of the board of the Indiana Patriot Guard, explained the significance of the Honor and Remember flag and presented it to Grow’s family members.
William Grow honored his brother with a moment of silence and also spoke of Grow’s death in Vietnam, which could have been prevented if a helicopter had been called in hours earlier. “He was a good brother,” he said.
The Indiana Patriot Guard honors multiple veterans killed in action every week. “We just want people to know someone cares,” said Bauer.
