Silver Lake Gets Park Cameras, Hears Complaints

SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council approved a $33,312.98 invoice with Verkada for new cameras in town, including at Rambler Park and Rambler Island.
Council President Hugh Murfin said the system also allows for remote locking and unlocking of doors so the bathrooms at Rambler Park can remain open during daytime hours.
During public comment, council heard complaints at length from local residents Silvia King, Sherry Rapp and others about dogs running loose in town on neighbors' properties, "junky houses" without windows and trash in the yard, and residents' witnessing animal cruelty and child abuse.
Town Marshal Jason McGlennen, who town attorney Austin Rovenstine reminded the public is the local authority for enforcing ordinances, asked that residents provide specific complaints and he will address them as he can.
Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley reminded the public that town ordinances, including those regarding unsafe buildings, are available on the town's website.
The council also heard a water and sewer financial update from Nicole Grzybowski, of Baker Tilly. Overall, the rate increases are helping to counterbalance the deficit in total fund balances for water but balances were still $27,051 below recommended reserves as of December 2024.
In other business, Conley said the TextMyGov service will be active starting June 9. Residents can use the number, as yet to be provided, to contact the town directly with their concerns. Residents will also receive messages and alerts, such as a boil water advisory, from the service.
Council received donation requests from the Lions Club and the Silver Lake Days committee. Council voted to donate $250 to the Lions Club for the back-to-school backpacks program and $1,000 toward Silver Lake Days.
Silver Lake will continue getting townwide Christmas decorations outsourced from Winterland; council signed a three-year agreement for $13,930 with all maintenance included.
Council also:
• Approved a Gaunt and Son Asphalt quote from the utilities department for $5,405.
• Approved a claims docket of $182,777.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. June 11.
