Dorothy J. Slone, 85, passed away on Monday morning, May 12, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne. Just two weeks prior, Dorothy was living at home, still very proud to be fairly independent.
Born on Aug. 13, 1939, in Prestonsburg, Ky., Dorothy was the daughter of Andrew and Sally Ousley Baldridge.
Dorothy married Carl Slone Sr. in Prestonsburg, Ky., on Dec. 25, 1956. They would share 67 years together while raising their son, Carl Jr., and watching their family grow.
She worked as a hostess at R.R. Donnelley through Bertsch Vending. Dorothy would leave Bertsch Vending and become a nanny for her “adopted” great-granddaughter, Maggie.
Having an angelic and gentle soul, Dorothy loved children and enjoyed raising her grandchildren. She took pleasure in quilt making and was a member of Living Hope Ministries in Warsaw.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Carl Slone Jr., of Warsaw; three grandchildren: Jennifer, Robert and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Joey; and great-great-grandson, Jayce; as well as her special friend who helped take care of her, Phyllis Layne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sr., who passed in 2021; great-grandson, Jacob; and siblings: Andrew, William, Monroe, Arthur, Virginia Prater, Rebecca Whitaker and May Ousley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Funeral services will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lewis Wedstel Shepherd officiating. Burial will at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
