Douglas ‘Doug’ Lynn Farrell

Douglas “Doug” Lynn Farrell, of Claypool, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the age of 77.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1947, in Huntington, to June Baker Brineman and Ronald E. Farrell. Doug graduated from Huntington High School in 1965 and attended Tri State College (now Trine University) in Angola from 1966-1967.
At the young age of 20, Doug knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Cheryl Ann Wert. On Oct. 28, 1967, in Angola, Cheryl and Doug were married. Being newly married, Doug left to serve in the U.S. Army from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He served as a combat rifleman during the Vietnam Conflict.
After returning home, he was blessed to spend the next 57 years celebrating their wedding anniversary, the birth of their children and grandchildren. In 1972, he received an apprentice position with General Motors, later serving as an electrician at the Marion plant. Doug was a reliable hard-working employee and retired on Oct. 31, 2006.
Doug and his family moved to Beaver Dam in 2000. He was a man of faith and enjoyed his church family as a member of the Beaver Dam Community Church in Akron. Throughout his life he enjoyed bowling, golfing and more than anything, spending time with his family.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl Ann Farrell, Claypool; three daughters: Melissa and Stephanie Farrell, both of Claypool; Jennifer Farrell, Bourbon; five grandchildren: Kayla and Andrew Lamb, Maddysun DeVoss and Jeremiah and Jazmine Farrell; and two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Laura. Also surviving is his sister, Emily Moran, Gas City. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Doug’s life will be celebrated with a service at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 12 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Butch Troke. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126 and active-duty members of the Army Honor Guard.
