President Trump’s First 100 Days: Restoring Common Sense
May 1, 2025 at 4:06 p.m.
In just 100 days, President Trump is delivering on his promise to the American people: bringing common sense back to Washington and putting America first.
While the Biden Administration spent four years making excuses, President Trump and House Republicans are taking action. In just 100 days, President Trump has secured the border, with border crossings down 95%. We didn't need new laws, just a new president.
In fact, the first piece of legislation President Trump signed into law was the Laken Riley Act, protecting innocent Americans by removing criminal illegal aliens from our streets. I was proud to support this bill and am grateful to finally have a President willing to work with House Republicans to put Americans first and keep our communities safe.
As a Ways and Means Committee member, I'm fighting to extend and expand the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). These tax cuts delivered real relief: 91% of middle-class taxpayers received a tax cut, and filing became simpler. This act also sparked pro-growth business reform, cutting taxes for small businesses and driving new investments. American families need real relief, not more financial strain. Extending these tax cuts isn't just smart policy; it's essential for protecting the financial security of millions of hardworking Americans.
President Trump is also unleashing American energy, bringing down prices, and cutting the red tape that has strangled small businesses and farmers for years. In only four months, we've already repealed 10 damaging Biden-era regulations. From rules targeting rubber manufacturers and energy producers to burdensome restrictions on walk-in coolers, these are important wins for Indiana and communities nationwide. However, there's still more work to do.
Common sense is returning across the government. We've ended radical DEI mandates in the military and federal agencies and are protecting women's sports by keeping biological men out of female competitions. As a father of two daughters who play sports, I know how important it is to ensure fairness and opportunity for young women.
House Republicans are also working with President Trump to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. Earlier this year, I introduced the Improper Payment Transparency Act to hold Washington accountable for the $2.8 trillion in improper payments made over the past two decades. We also passed the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act, which extends the statute of limitations for pandemic-related fraud from five to 10 years. This act holds fraudsters accountable, recovers taxpayer dollars, and increases transparency for hardworking Hoosiers.
100 days in, I'm more determined than ever to deliver real results for Hoosiers. Common sense is back, and with President Trump leading the charge, America's greatest days are just beginning.
