Warsaw FFA Excels At District 2 Leadership Development Events

The Warsaw FFA Chapter showcased their skills and leadership at the District 2 FFA Leadership Development Event (LDE) competitions March 14 at Whitko Career Academy in Larwill.
These events spanned a range of contests, including prepared and impromptu speaking, demonstrations, employability skills, job interviews and multimedia scrapbooks. Over 400 FFA members from local chapters participated this year, according to a news release from Warsaw Community Schools.
Warsaw FFA members earned multiple individual and team accolades, including first-place awards in four categories. The chapter was also recognized for Supervised Agricultural Experience proficiency awards, a second-place Senior Welding Team finish and fourth place in the District FFA Chapter Meeting contest.
District Contest Results
• First Place: multimedia scrapbook, led by Olivia Starkweather; swine production proficiency, Kaytlin Skeans; employability skills, Kaytlin Skeans; and novice animal science demonstration, Natalie Hohman and Abigail Gordon.
• Second Place: agricultural sales, Kaymen Delph; discovery plant and soil science demonstration, Alexa Hankins; discovery creed speaking, Madelyn Riley; discovery food science demonstration, Ashlyn Arnett; premier leadership interview, Kaytlin Skeans; novice agricultural sales, Sadie Reed; and Animal Science Demonstration, Kaytlin Skeans and Alayna Alexander.
• Third Place: Novice Food Science Demonstration, Sadie Reed; high school quiz bowl, Makayla Riley, Joseph Goble, Amy Joy, Kade Lackey; star greenhand interview, Alayna Alexander; horticulture and landscape demonstration, Ariana Bustamante and Khloe Hinojosa; agricultural mechanics and fabrication demonstration, Kaymen Delph; and discovery quiz bowl, Madelyn Riley, Ashlyn Arnett, Alexa Hankins, Natalie Deuel.
• Additional Participants: extemporaneous speech, Kaytlin Skeans (sixth); agriculture farm and business management demonstration, Sadie Reed (fourth); freshman creed speaking, Kade Lackey (seventh); and prepared public speaking, Makayla Riley (sixth).
Warsaw FFA is led by chapter advisors Madelyn Kelsheimer and Jacob Riley.

Editor, Times-Union: I am writing to express my deep concerns about the proposed data center in Clunette, Indiana, and its potential impact on our community's agricultural heritage. As residents, we are fortunate to be surrounded by a rich history of farming and agriculture that has shaped not only the landscape but also the identity of our community. The proposed development threatens to disrupt this tradition and could have long-term consequences for our agricultural future.
