SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council voted to have the underbelly of the east water tower repainted as part of its regular preventative maintenance.
Utilities Superintendent Kent Slater presented a quote from Maguire Inc. for $15,000, which the council accepted.
In old business, council approved an additional $1,000, in addition to the previously approved $2,000, for Tim Moyer, who has taken 18 semi loads of wood and brush piles from the property just south of the town park.
Town Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple is ordering Port-a-Pots for the townwide garage sale April 25–26. There will be four Port-a-Pots: one at Calhoun and Sunset, one at Crossroads Bank, one at the Fire Department and one in the Whispering Hills subdivision.
Knepple presented the new banners for the downtown light poles, which will be installed soon, along with seasonal flowers and flags.
In public input, council heard a question from Donna Bowers regarding an electric meter attached to a telephone pole on her property.
Bowers also asked why she is not eligible to vote for members on the town council. Town attorney Greg Hockemeyer explained that because Bowers lives just outside the municipal limits and does not pay town taxes, she cannot vote for town officials.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. April 8.
