Doris J. Christner, of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 24, 2025, after a long and fulfilling life of 103 years.
She was born on March 15, 1922, in New Brighton, Pa., to Charlotte Brenner Meeder and Henry Meeder. Doris grew up in a large family, she was one of ten children and always had a sibling around and a familiar face at school. She was a 1940 graduate of Glen-Nor High School in Norwood, Pa., where she was the captain of her basketball team, played field hockey and softball. Doris was quite the athletic gal and a trailblazer in women's sports during WWII becoming a part of the Westinghouse softball team in the 1940-1950s.
She was a smart, hardworking lady her entire life, Doris had the proud distinction to be the fourth woman hired at the R.R. Donnelley's plant in Warsaw. Donnelley's was part of her family, having worked with many friends she made on the job and retiring after 27 years as the quality inspector.
Throughout her life, Doris kept active and enjoyed volunteering as a Pink Lady at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw and was a longtime member of American Legion Auxiliary. She attended Walnut Creek United Methodist Church and spent many quiet hours reading and completing her many crossword puzzles and playing with her beloved cats.
She experienced so much in her lifetime and witnessed many changes in this world, but nothing compared to being a mom and raising her kids. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her son, Wayne Christer; and her daughter, Sheri Krichbaum, both of Warsaw. Also, surviving her dear friends Clara Poppenfuse, and John and Maria Hollon. She was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Doris’ life will be celebrated privately by her family. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Memorial donations may be directed to Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, 1048 S. 325 W., Pierceton, IN 46562.
Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home’s website at www.redpathfruthfuneralhome.com.
