CLAYPOOL — Claypool Town Council is working on addressing an issue with Section Street by seeking quotes for excavation work.
During a Tuesday council meeting, Council President Benny Stage Jr. said the street's settling is a driving hazard. He noted there had been a lot of back-and-forth over the years on whether the part needing work was town or county property.
Both entities have ruled it's town property, leading Stage to seek excavation quotes to fix it. Thus far, one quote has been received for $10,884.42. Stage said he expects an additional estimate and that he cannot obtain an asphalt quote for fixing the roadway until excavation is complete.
"This project needs to be done as soon as possible," said Stage. "It's needed to be done for a while now."
Council is also working on getting quotes to finish an alleyway on Clay Street. Only half of the alley is covered in stone.
With the Section Street and the alley projects, the council will begin looking into funds to complete them.
Town Marshal Trevor Long said finishing touches are still being completed on the town's website. He told council he'd like for the town's ordinances to be digitally filed and accessible on the site.
The website will also feature an events page.
Anyone with suggestions on the website's appearance or local photos to utilize for it can contact Long for more details. Councilman Don Miller suggested the possibility of including a section on the website to help new residents get acclimated to the town.
Chris Harrison, business development manager for Commonwealth Engineers Inc., said he and Town Superintendent Danny Warner recently completed ammonia tests in town.
"The ammonia level in the town seems to be high, 68.8 milligrams per liter," said Harrison. "With this primarily being residential, it kind of raises some eyebrows on our end."
Harrison said ammonia levels are typically at 20 to 30 milligrams per liter. He told the council he and Warner would work on contacting industrial users in town to determine where the high ammonia levels are coming from.
Council also:
• Approved having LC Lawn Services assist with mowing around town as needed.
• Will hold an admin and TIF meeting on Wednesday, March 26.
• Heard from town attorney Rama Sobhani that the town will need to begin video recording its meetings in July.
The council's next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Claypool Lions Club building.

The Benefits Of A Data Center In Agriculture And Economic Growth
Editor, Times-Union: I’ve heard folks say I have prime farmland. What I haven’t heard mentioned are the eleven towers scattered across it - eleven towers that you have to till, plant, and harvest around. Heaven forbid you hit one. Planes that spray my fields can’t hit the full area because of these obstacles. I’ve got four irrigation units running to irrigate the best I can, where normally two would suffice.
