Dog Dies In Syracuse Fire Sunday

SYRACUSE - A dog died in a Syracuse house fire on Sunday.
According to a news release Tuesday from the Turkey Creek Fire Territory, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 504 S. Manor Drive, Syracuse, on Sunday at 4:38 a.m. Upon arrival, fire and smoke was noted from the attached garage and the front door of the structure.
The occupant of the home at the scene reported that everyone was out of the structure and that there was a canine still inside. There were two dogs reported at the home at the time of the fire, one of which had exited and later returned. One of the dogs perished as a result of the fire, the release states.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished at approximately 6:30 a.m. There was damage to a vehicle that was parked in the driveway and to the adjacent structure at 506 S. Manor Drive as a result of the fire. Firefighters remained on the scene to search for any remaining extension of the fire in the structure. Firefighters cleared the scene at 11:10 a.m.
There were no injuries reported by civilians or firefighters as a result of the fire.
Property loss was estimated at $110,000 as a result of the fire.
Assisting at the scene were Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory, Milford Fire Department, Benton Township Fire Department, Syracuse Police Department, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Syracuse Water Department and the American Red Cross.
The structure is owned by Joe D. Higdon.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, according to the release.
