Triton School Board Gets Update On Work Done In Buildings

BOURBON – Superintendent Jeremy Riffle on Friday updated the Triton School Board on some renovations to school buildings during the past few months.
There were some issues with the flooring in the elementary school cafeteria, including places the flooring didn’t cover the subflooring all that well. Floor Care Concepts, out of Michigan, came back over Christmas break, and redid the flooring and “it looks really good now,” Riffle said.
The school corporation reached out to Floor Care Concepts and thanked them for their work.
Over spring break, March 21-31, all the window blinds at the elementary and junior/senior high school are going to be replaced. Railings are also going to be added to the existing elementary school gym bleachers. A new fire suppression system will be added to the high school.
The board also approved a $845,725 bid from Morris & Sons Roofing to replace the elementary school roof.
Riffle had previously said the roof will be replaced starting during the summer.
In other business, the board:
• Learned there was a good turnout for freshman orientation on Feb. 13. Parents learned about new graduation requirements for incoming freshmen. The new requirements will be presented to the board in April.
• Learned second- and third-graders took IREAD last week.
• Learned juniors took the SAT March 5.
• Was reminded the Triton Student Life Foundation will present Comedy For A Cause starring David Dean on April 5.
Tickets are $50 in advance of the event and can be purchased at the Bourbon town clerk’s office and the Triton administration building. Tickets will be $60 at the door.
• Approved the hiring on Mason McIntyre as a temporary elementary school administrative assistant.
