The Warsaw Community High School Science Team won the 2025 Warsaw Education Foundation Quiz Bowl Tuesday at the WCHS TRAC.
Team members Eric Linn, Melissa Warner and Emily, Kevin and Michael Gough answered 72% of the allotted questions during the event.
Erin Serafino, WEF executive director, said 59 teams of five members each played Tuesday after a couple teams dropped out at the last minute.
The theme for the night was "At the Beach.” One of the categories was local beaches and waterways. Serafino said the WEF got questions from The Watershed Foundation and The Lilly Center for Lakes and Streams “so that we could honor them and tell everyone about them.” The other three categories were beach destinations; movies, TV and music at the beach; and 2024 year in review. There were 15 questions per round.
To participate in the Quiz Bowl, organizations paid for sponsorships of $300 or more. If the organization wanted to donate money, but didn’t want to play, teachers played under the organization’s donation.
The valedictorian sponsor this year was Maple Leaf Farms, who donated $2,500. Honor roll sponsors, who gave $1,000, were W.R. Hall Insurance Group, Warsaw Breakfast Optimists, Zimmer Biomet and SYM Financial Advisors.
Other sponsors included Miller’s Merry Manor, Lewis Salvage, Warsaw Community Church, Wildman Business Group, Lake City Bank, Bowen Health, the city of Warsaw, Ivy Tech, Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce, Kosciusko Kettleheads, Book Club Husbands, American Association of University Women, First Federal Bank, Noon Optimists and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.
This year, $21,000 was raised during the Quiz Bowl. The money raised goes to support WEF initiatives like Red Apple Grants. Last year, WEF was able to give away $16,000 in grants, so Serafino said WEF hopes to do more this year.
For the people that participate in Quiz Bowl, Serafino said it’s a fun night of networking and having a good time.
